Also, the project settings must match the original streams as well. Essentially, everything must match and the clips must not be altered in any way (duration/speed, filters, etc) otherwise EDIUS is forced to re-render that part.

Segment Encoding is very specific on what it'll accept and ignore, when encoding a new stream. Are you able to upload a small sample clip somewhere for us to play with?
to add something here. it might be nice to know what criteria segment encoding is looking for?

ProCoder Express for EDIUS MPEG encoding will never support smart rendering.
The MPEG2 profile I made was off the MPEG Generic. And I do have Segment Encode selected.
So I have a MPEG 2 file that is the standard we use 8mbps constant video and 256kbps for audio. I clip the beginning and end to clean up the program. When I render it out as discribed above I'm having the MPEG Generic profile set to the same parameters it just seems like it take a long time to output the file. For example its about 1 hr program takes 45 mins to output. It does not seem to be as quick as another application we use to use called Womble MPEG Video Wizard where if the profile and the timeline files match parameters it outputs through a one hour program in like 9 mins since its not reencoding. Either I am doing something wrong or something else is not happening?

I'm new to this software. How do I distinguish between Native mpeg exporter and proCoder? All I see is print to file and I select a MPEG2 profile I made there. In other words can you please elaborate step one. I see where the segment encode is enabled already.

Edius Pro 4.51C and smart render?
Hi,
I have a MPEG2 profile setup in the export section. We use 8m video 256k audio. Is there a way to tell Edius not to re-render the output file from the timeline if the file on the timeline complies with the profile settings in Edius already?
Example
I bring in a mpeg2 file that had already been encoded that way and we just using Edius to edit the file. The Original file is encoded to MPEG2 8m video and 256k audio same as the profile in Edius. Now I clean up the clip cut the front and the end of the clip so its a clean show. I print to file to the MPEG 2 profile. Is there a Smart Render feature that will only re-render a file if its not at the MPeg2 profile setting? As it is it seems like a one show will take about half time or so to render out and I thought that it would be faster since we not modifying the parameters just editing the file.
