Source Browser not working for DVDs

I am running EDIUS 9.52 and using Source Browser to load in DVDs via an internal Pioneer BDR-209M. The DVD appears to load correctly (i.e. the total time is correct); however when I place the clip into the Timeline, the video and audio go blank (i.e. there is no content) after about 30 seconds. This is consistent for every load I have tried. Occasionally, the load is only a partial load (i.e. the total time is less than the actual). On three occasions, EDIUS has gotten a "not responding" condition and created an event log - but EDIUS kept working.

I have swapped out DVD drives to an ITAPI iHAS324-98, but have the same problem. I can use another PC with EDIUS 6.5 installed and an ITAPI drive, and all the DVDs load via Source Browser with no issues.

My point is that I am pretty sure I have eliminated the hardware issues, so the problem must be elsewhere.

Have you tried just copying the files from the DVD to a hard drive and input from there ?

personally, I use PGC Demux (free) to rip a DVD to elementary streams and then load direct into EDIUS

It can demux a full single layer DVD in 10 seconds and you are ready for editing

Case Closed

What I discovered (through some of Anton's old postings) was that post-v6 EDIUS versions do not re-construct the audio and video streams of a DVD that was created using a standalone DVD writer. See the two attached screen captures from v6.54 and v9.52 - the "Reconstruct Files" option in the "DVD Video Settings" section is not available in v9.52. I am not sure the reason the feature was removed, but I suspect lawyers and money were involved.

Nonetheless, the best solution was to use a third-party software to load the audio and videos streams separately (not using Source Browser) and stitch them back together in the Timeline. I really appreciate the responses and advice.

Is the latest version 1.2.0.5? Care to show a screen shot of your settings? Seems very simple.

yes, that is the latest

always copy the VIDEO_TS from DVD to hard disk first, then demux takes seconds

Anton. Are the vobs stitched together for each ifo? Also I noticed the audio file was about 5 frames shorter after I created the elementary stream. Is this what you experience?

all vob files within a title set are stitched together automatically
some DVDs have more than one title set, so you need to repeat this for additional titles

ac3 files can sometimes miss a few frames at the end, that is normal, it won't cause lip sync issues

Are you saying the .IFO is a title set?

yes, and if there is more than one title, you will see several of these

the first IFO is usually the menu and you don't need this, start with the next one

Out of interest Anton, what are you using just to rip a DVD to a single stream ie rename to mpg to put on to a USB stick. I currently reboot an XP drive with 4.6. I think that was the last version that disc capture worked properly.

if I want to rip a DVD to single mpg file, I use the Tmpg MW source wizard

the last version where DVD capture worked 100% was 5.51
