canopus HQ avi to iDVD??

HI..
I'm trying to burn my canopus hq avi to idvd...(i use one of its nice dvd authoring template) i can import it straight from the NTFS external hardisk of mine to the macbook.. BUT i can not see the video preview... only the sound.
is there any workflow that i should follow on this? or it just the canopus hq codec?

MacOS doesn't have Canopus HQ, so you'll have to use a different CODEC that MacOS QuickTime can understand. If all else fails, use uncompressed.

so i have to export my avi to a different codec...what do u think the supported codec will be? coz i have 1 hour footage i really don't wanna waste hours to do the trial n errors.. is there mac users in this forum that could help me?

Uncompressed and MSDV should work.

There is a problem with uncompressed (.avi) and msdv (.avi)...iDVD will not find the correct aspect ratio for MSDV or uncompressed avi files...so you're better of using After Effects (for example) to convert it to a quicktime file. Use compression such as lossless PNG @ 100% or Animation @ 100% and uncompressed audio.

ProCoder should work fine as well, just make sure all the flag settings are correct.

Also QuickTime DV (.mov) should work ok as well. iDVD will find the correct flag within the .mov file.

so...from the above suggestions i think the easiest way is to convert my avi to .mov using procoder 3 ... right? will the resolution or image quality decreasing in this way?

Not if you use a good codec. Use PNG @ 100%, it is lossless and looks very good at a smaller file size. It will be somewhat heavy on the CPU usage though, so beware.

Also in the properties of the PNG codec, make sure to select either 16:9 or 4:3 and "interlaced" or "progressive". Haven't checked if Procoder 2 has this exact same settings, but it should. I use QuickTime under OSX and all these options are available.

Also I am not sure of Procoder's encode will look the best possible as right now with Edius there is a slight color shift in Edius, not sure if it's the same for QT files in procoder...I just use After Effects for QT Conversions.

What is your source footage? If it is 4:2:2 files, then if you use Quicktime DV, you will lose some color as DV is 4:1:1. PNG is 4:2:2.

i've encode my hq avi to quicktime6 (.mov) with procoder..
i use 4:3 quicktime dv pal... lower/bottom field..apple dv pal...but i change the audio from 44khz to 48khz 16bit,also the audio encoder from 16-bit endian (uncompressed) to apple lossless...
the video results was great..except the sound is jittering every 2 seconds for the whole footage..is it because i change the audio encoder?
or should i leave the audio setting of it?(44khz;16 bit endian)
i really think the audio setting of dvd should be 48 khz right?
i've tried uncompressed...5 second avi of 78mb turn to be 250mb??!! duh! so unefficient guys.

Uncompressed might be inefficient, but it's the only easy way to avoid loss in recompression.

You are correct that DVD requires 48 KHz audio samplin rate.

TQ GUYS..
it solved ;) i used the default value of Quicktime 6 PAL DV...except i changed 44k to 48k for the sound..i saw the dvd just now n it shows sharp!
once again tq for the input...(stormdave my footage is 4:1:1 so i just stick with QT right)
