  • Audio vs HD Spark

Using Edius 8, I have a conflict with audio and the HD Spark. Using the Spark to show on my TV, I have no audio on my external speakers. Turning the Spark off gives me sound on the external speakers but no show on the TV. Any suggestions for a solution?

    Thanks,
    Theo

Edius routes picture and sound through the device you have enabled as your preview device. In Edius, if you disable the spark, you are telling edius to use your internal sound card for audio, and your computer monitor for video. Enabling the Spark is tell Edius to use the Spark for audio and video. If you want audio from the spark when using the HDMI to the TV/video monitor, you need to either de-embed the audio from the HDMI, listen to the audio from the RCA outputs on the spark, or the audio output from the TV, not the internal sound card. If you notice any A/V sync issues listening to the spark, you will need to listen to the audio out from the TV if it has one, as the TV may be introducing video processing latency.

If you want the ability to hear both internal sound card and spark audio through your speakers, you need to either run all audio through a mixer or something like a Mackie big knob, or run the analog audio from the spark, de-embedder, or audio out of the TV back into a line input on your internal sound card, and enable that input at all times. I personally prefer the mixer/big knob type of setup, as it gives you a physical volume knob and the ability to easily disable one or the other with the press of a button.

I used to have both audio and video on my Spark card and on my speakers, but then the computer went into a major windows update and everything went sideways. I have checked the wiring and it's good.

      Thanks,
