  • ProRes specs?

Happy Sunday everyone (except down-under - Happy Monday!)

I have to deliver to a distributor a ProRes version of our award-winning Festival short. Here are their specs for delivery - and I'm not sure EDIUS is able to deliver the conversion from mp4. I cannot even tell if the EDIUS output conversion to ProRes is ProRes 422 or 422 HQ or even VBR, much less at 220 Mbps.

    Apple ProRes 422 HQ
    VBR expected at 220 Mbps
    1920x1080 Square pixel aspect ratio
Native frame rate of mp4 - OK
    Audio - AAC

I'd appreciate any advice, for they're very specific about accepting only the above video and audio specs.
    Many thanks,
    Alan

          Hey Alan,

Just a note about ProRes. It is by nature a VBR codec, as is HQ/HQX, and the 422HQ variant denotes 220Mbps @ 29.97fps. If your film is 23.976, the bitrate will be less. Probably in the area of 176Mbps.

Suffice to say that each bottle was over $100. I couldn't let Anton think that Napa Valkey had bad wine. ;-)

Hey John - you need some nice red wine as well to keep you're blood flowing. I see that the high in Angelsey is 39 degrees today - with rain! Burrrrrrrr.

Incidentally all, I discovered that converting to ProRes HQ as default - with "Frame blending" makes all scene cuts look weird. So change it to "Nearest Frame" and it looks super good. Thanks for all your help.

                        Happy editing, guys.

that should not happen, what is your source frame rate and your project setting frame rate?

Frame blending and Nearest Frame should be identical if your source, timeline and export framerates are all the same. This only makes a difference if there is a mismatch, as there has to be a frame interpolation somewhere to create the new framerate, unless there is just a speed change taking place.
