  • EDIUS going forward

As you may know already Grass Valley was acquired by venture capital company Black Dragon Capital.
There are no immediate changes planned to Grass Valley's operational management structure and Tim Shoulders will continue in his role as president.

What does this mean for you as an EDIUS customer?
You will be able to use EDIUS in your future productions and benefit from the continuing development. Our EDIUS team is still here.

As a valued EDIUS customer you don't have to worry about purchasing EDIUS in the future.
Currently we already have subscription based services for some customers (broadcast, educational institutions) . There is also the floating license. These possibilities coexist with the license you here on the forum are familiar with.
So we give choice in our licensing model.

So again yes you will be able to purchase EDIUS and use it as before.
EDIUS 10 will be our next version.

Remember we have a promotion that if you buy EDIUS 9 now you will get EDIUS 10 for free.

    Hope this calms everyone. :)
Thanks for all the private messages about this.

If you are interested we have more information here:

      Thanks for the update.

I am most interested to see that one of the Black Dragon team, Frank Capria, is the Director of Media Technology. Frank was an editor at WGBH (PBS) in Boston where he won a regional Emmy Award in 1999. He was also Director of Product Management at AVID until 2016. He is currently a Senior Lecturer for the Film and Television Program at Boston University. This is greatly encouraging. I was also an editor at WGBH Boston, and while there I was one of the very first to actually use an early AVID.

The other part to this is that people too often take a general press release and apply it only to EDIUIS (as that is their connection with Grass Valley). Remember that EDIUS is a very small part of GV and most of the things that a press release talk about do not necessarily apply to EDIUS.

            Where to purchase V9 workgroup

Is there a place I should purchase V9 workgroup (jump grade)? In the past, I would just upgrade directly from GV, but the last time, I use a online seller (no longer selling GV) and now I that seller can not help with questions or services.

            Thanks

The official Edius shop from the distributor is one place.

You can also find a link to a resellers search on their contacts page.

I'v not done business with this company Edius-Shop before, but I have done business with Adorana (camera & Video). Is the
edius shop a GV reseller, that can help with Edius problems? Is Adorana not coincided a Reseller, so would not be able to help with problems?

I only ask about this, because of the problems I have with my current Edius 7 and a lost/wasted activation on a system drive that died. I did have a backup of the system drive, but had to use the extra activation to get back up and running.

Does Edius 9 and Edius 10, Activate the same way and do you loose that activation if your system drive dies and you need to replace it?

                Thanks

IN additions to Steve's information, activations are much the same. If you run into problems that you mentioned, usually a call to your reseller will take care of the problem.

I did reach out to my reseller, they no longer sell GV products, so I'm kinda out of options.

                      Very sad

Bob, the distribution channels for Edius have changed here in North America. Magic Mutilmedia never used to be the distributor for North America, but they took it over a couple of years ago. As such the resellers would be required to sign on with the new distributor, and some have not taken that step by the sounds of it.

Don't be afraid of dealing with them. They are the official global distributor and operate the Edius Shop as was mentioned above. Also as I mentioned above, they also have a reseller lookup on the site where you can find the resellers for your area.
