It's basically you drawing a key shape and then applying a filter within that key pattern. Once drawn, you can move the pattern around on the Chrominance screen.
You can draw the key or simply click on any portion of the the Chrominance panel screen with the color picker for a desired effect.

The patterns allow a 'blending' of the effects filters used by changing the Alpha 1 and Alpha 2 sliders, as well as moving the pattern around the Chrominance screen panel.

Yeah, thanks Jerry but I know Chrominance well. This is my main tool for keying skin tones. I ask particularly about "Shape Alpha 1" because this slider change nothing.

this chrominace tool needs a major overhaul in EDIUS 10, the area where you pick color or adjust shapes is way too small (postage stamp size), it was good in the old days when monitor resolution was 1024 x 768

This is exactly what I'm asking for from about 4 years, Anton.

You have to first select a filter and then either use the eye dropper or draw a shape on the Chrominance preview monitor. Then the Shape 1 slider will work.
