    How can I remove metadata

    I have made a mp4 video file in Edius that needs to be anonymous for legal reasons. Is it possible to remove most or all metadata?

    I believe some things can be edited if you display the properties of the file and go to the details tab. Have a look at this: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-e...ata-windows-10

    Can you show an example of the metadata that you want to remove if they are not accessible in the properties palette?

    There are certain bits of metadata that you don't want to remove, as players often use them to ensure correct playback, such as info about frame rates, audio configuration, colour space, etc.

      Hi Bern,

      I am aware of partial removal of the metadata, but it was the file data that gives my drive info and file location that I wanted to remove.

      I see from your link that the file info cannot be removed, so I will have to think of another way of presenting the video content to the person who has asked for it.

        Could you encode it to a USB drive. Not sure if copying would also change file information. Is it big ?

          No it is only 30 seconds long, about 77 Mb. I will try it putting it on a USB stick and see if that changes the original metadata

            The file location information is not metadata. It is is not embedded into the file, just the OS reporting the location. If you make a copy of the file to a different location, you will see that this information changes to reflect where the file is located now.

                MP3tag can edit meta data from various files, it doesn't re-render the file but it does write a new file for mp4 including all changes made.
