Which Laptop for Edius Broadcast

Even if VISTA SP1 makes it as good as XP PRO, what is wrong with XP PRO in the first place? Does all the fancy 3D graphics in VISTA makes it a better OS? It needs 1GB RAM just to run smoothly - what happens if I run Photoshop CS3 in that fellow - then what?

Vista Ultimate seems to be the only choice for all laptops, that doesn't make it too appealing.
MacBookPro looks like a great contender as well.

You will need to upgrade to Edius Broadcast to gain support for XDCAM EX files.
Or you can use the HDV mode on the cam (read somewhere that it does this) and start editing in Edius 4 Pro.

I just bought a Sony Vaio VGN 51M for use in the field with my EX1. It has an Express card slot 34, has a Bluray Dual Layer drive - so it can be used to archive after EX1 import. It has 2 160gb sata drives, 2ghz core duo, HDMI output as well as S video, and if you pay for the top end version of this laptop it comes with full 1920x1080 display and 2 raid capable sata drives of 250 gb each and a 2.3 gig processor.
The downside I guess, it's loaded with Vista, but this will get sorted with Edius soon, and the upside is I paid only £800 for the version I bought.
Considering the cost of a) a bluray burner and b) a USB express card reader,
I'd say this laptop is a steal. Oh by the way, they put me 4Gb of RAM in it too!
(and a copy of Spiderman 3 on Bluray) not sure if this is a plus or not !!

Which Laptop for Edius Broadcast
Looking for a Laptop that will run Edius Broadcast, to edit mainly XDCAM footage from EX1 camera, copied via Express Card Slot to an external SATA drive.
Would I need to convert 1440 XDCAM files to HQ codec to make it work RT in Edius Broadcast?Tags: None
