Compatible mainboard for dual/quad core xeons?

Anyone using Canopus/GVT hardware (NX, SP) with dual or even quad core xeons? What's the mainboard of choice? TIA

You might want to wait until Q3 before building. The new 45 nano chips will be out and be cooler and faster. These will require new motherboard models.
Even if you don't want those, the 65 nano chips will go on sale.

my case may have been an isolated incident where 1/4 of the solder joints on the mobo where missing or bad, it kept stopping randomly for no reason with monitors going black until I discovered that the slightest push on the mobo would kill PC, that's when I knew it is bad solders

the mobo was replaced under warranty and all is well now

Thanks for the info. Two further questions:

- Need at least 2 PCI-Express 1x, the board has only one 4x. Suggestions?

- Which heatsinks do those who own the board recommend?

Correct. You would need 3 PCI-e slots if you are going to use the NX Express in a Supermicro workstaion. (so it can't happen). why they couldn't keep the old design I will never know.

If you can get the old NX with 1xPCI-e & 1xPCI then it will be ok.

I use passive Intel stock heatsinks and it's very quiet. That desicion is more to do with yoru case design though.

Passive heatsinks in a desktop case? Can you please give some details about your system? Which CPUs do you currently use? TIA!

Yes, but you need to get a case with airflow over the heatsinks. I have this one. http://supermicro.com/products/chass...SC743T-645.cfm with Xeon 5340's (2.33Ghz) x2

good case, I have the same, but mine is black

only one thing to watch for, the cable that comes with th NX bay is technically too short for this rather long case, you need to do a bit of strange routing in order to make it to the NX board, but you will find the way
