Does this mean it will fit in a Mac Pro (specifically one of the new 8 core systems!) and how much is it in Aus?

Best to wait, maybe at NAB GV will introduce new cards.

Probably, except that the daughter card for the SP-SDI is still plain ol' PCI, so you'd only have 1/2 of the hardware installed, and no realtime HD output to an external display. And since that is probably the single biggest draw of the EDIUS hardware line, I don't see why you'd want to try that installation.

The SP-SDI is only available as a turnkey solution at this time in North America, much like EDIUS HD. Hardware-wise, it is similar to the SP in that they use the same breakout box and the same baseboard and daughter card arrangement, but it also adds a panel slot that offers SD-SDI ingest and output. Not a third card, just a panel slot; the SDI plugs come out of the back of the mainboard and connect to the panel slot through extension wires. Unlike the HD system which has the SDI I/O on the breakout box, the SDI I/O on the SP-SDI is only through that panel slot, hence the SP-SDI name.

Kenneally sent me a great picture of the card configuration which would surely help illustrate my poor explanation, but I'll be darned if I can't find the silly thing. With any luck, he'll see this and post it or hyperlink to a good picture somewhere.

And for those of you who will ask, no, you cannot upgrade a current SP system to the SP-SDI. The mainboard is different (PCI-express), your existing daughter card will not be compatible (we've tried it, it doesn't work), and most likely you would need a new motherboard (or at the very least, a shuffling of motherboard peripherals) to accommodate for the 3rd panel slot.

What is with the SP SDI?

It's not referenced on the website other than in the turnkey, however the "hit pick" award logo, which was only awarded to the SP SDI package- is located on the NLE software page.
Working...
