  • EDIUS 9.31 - Error in device preset

Been a while since I had to capture vhs and last time I used it was with Edius ver7.x

Now using Edius WG 9.31 with Matrox MXO2le I tried to make a device preset for analog recording through composite video and unbalanced audio.

It didn't work so I went and view the tutorial from David Clarke (thanks!) to verify I still remember the procedure...

Once I select Capture from the Edius menu I get the message ''Error in device preset''

I'm clearly having doubts that what I did was right or wrong, but would just like to check with any user here that has a Matrox MXO2le and can confirm that it's working with Edius WG 9.31 or not.

Through the Matrox Video Utils I have a confirmed picture on my computer sreen and also picture and sound on my TV monitor that is connected to the MXO2le.
Test capture using Matrox software is also fine but would of course like to use Edius to do this.

Edius timelime with color bars are also visible when selected on the TV so all that is confirmed working fine.

Any hint and advise is very welcome...

      Seriously... that's chips ;(

I tried to capture with Matrox AV Tools but Edius can't read that video file.

Any temporary workaround by converting these Matrox files?
So far my attempts to convert have been fruitless.

I can capture fine with my Matrox MX01 LE, SDI and analog. I'm still on Edius 7 though. Maybe Anton will chime in later, he also has a Matrox box.

The question was for EDIUS 9.31. Don't see how that relates to EDIUS 7?

Matrox Capture also works in Edius 8. Did they axe Matrox capture in 9? That would be a shame. One of the best boxes ever.

Hi Johnny, Indeed my question was referring to ver 9.31 but any usable info can never hurt :)

Getting a tad desperate now so I just installed Edius 7.53, it crashes trying to select the Matrox as preview device, my guess it's due to the Matrox ver 8.x driver that is needed for win 10.

Going to win 7 + Edius 7 + ver7.x matrox drivers is not worth the trouble for less then 10 vhs tapes, they are of very poor quality and I just made a test with handbrake to directly convert the raw captured file and it played fine on a old hardware media player.

It's normally not how I do things but being the case i'm using a laptop i have not so much choice.
If only I was near my old system with my HDBX1000 interface it would be an easy task, I miss the flexibility to open the hood en swap things in a jiffy.

Capture using Edius 8 was on win 7 or win 10?

I'm afraid that my issue is due to the win 10 drivers and a complete o.s. re-install on my laptop is just too much hassle.
I don't have enough spare o.s. drives lying around to clone and swap. Going from win7 + edius7 and later back to win10 + edius9 will become a never ending story as i have tons of software configured very smooth now...

I never had an issue with the Matrox for output being it HDMI or Component but running into my first snag now.

I still feel it can't beat Canopus hardware.

you can't capture with 9.31 but you can capture with 9.30 and earlier

you can install EDIUS8 on the same PC as 9.31 and use it for capture

I am unsure as to why it no longer works

Anton, you're a live saver, I will install ver 8 tomorrow, been 14 hours struggling now and need some shut eye.
I assume edius 8 will be using the ver 8.x matrix driver on win 10 ?

I have completed 3 VHS tapes quick and dirty straight from source then convert with handbrake which could read the Matrox codec but if it works with edius I prefer to cut the bad parts out.

                        Thanks for your advise...

yes, I installed EDIUS8 just so I can capture
EDIUS8 and 9 do not interfere with each other and you can update EDIUS9 forever without having to remove EDIUS8

I will continue the investigation tonight, I now have to get some tapes out the door...

                              Progress...

After struggling for a month or so I'm almost back, up and running.

A firmware update to the Matrox box went wrong and the box Blue LED began to blink on/off in 1 sec interval.

Following instructions on other forums did not resolve the issue and there was NO communication between the laptop and MXO2 le.

I installed Edius 7 and also Edius 8 with different drivers from Matrox and nothing worked.

Next I installed Windows 7 pro on my laptop to give that a try with older drivers only to find out that the hardware and processor is too new and can't run win 7 properly, only half of it works and no express port drivers ;(

Then a mate of mine gave me a great idea, why not try it in my Mac!
We installed the Matrox driver, plugged the express card, reboot, and immediately the firmware started flashing the corrupt windows firmware.

Now the communication works again with either Mac or Win and the blue led is ON solid as before :)

But.... I now have another minor issues that I have installed Edius 7 and 8 while testing that somehow I can't install version 9 anymore, it tells me a previous version is installed and refuses to continue installation.

                              While I'm pretty happy I didn't brick my MXO2, I feel a bit let down I can't install Edius WG9...

Any help on this would be appreciated !
