  • Expected 4.6 date

    Hello all, Happy New Year,

I just wondered if there was an expected date for the 4.6 release, as my EX1 is about to be shipped to me. My Edius Broadcast software copes happily with the EX1 files, but the import utility with 4.6 looks like it might be handy, as it doesn't require the Sony unwrap utility thingy.

EX1 support, and additional Grass Valley Infinity DMC tools and functionality are the headliner additions. (these are for EDIUS Broadcast)

The rest of the changes are minor and mainly consist of additional bug fixes.

The update will be out When It's Ready™

(please don't ask again on this forum, or I'll lock/remove the thread)

Maybe a sticky for 4.6 so people will stop asking about it :)

My question was a genuine one, I did not expect such caustic responses, I'd say rude is the word.

              Chill out grumpy people.

"My question was a genuine one, I did not expect such caustic responses, I'd say rude is the word."

                I agree with you Paul.

I am also an EX-1 owner, Edius user and ex Rex RT user, and visit this website every day.

I had not seen a definite date for 4.6, and have been converting my footage, so I think a decent response was in order, especially as we had been shown a working 4.6 beta at the Sony EX demo in Melbourne (in October) and told it would be available virtually when the camera shipped.

As EX owners we were told we had to have Edius Broadcast and many of us have spend $1000's of dollars to upgrade, a more courteous response could have been expected.

A Happy New Year to all at Grass Valley.

                May it be Catching!!

                Cheers Vaughan

The upgrade is 400 dollars not 1000. :)

Broadcast does P2 and some other formats as well (Infinity) so that's another plus on top of XDCAM.

                      ...

I can remember 'once upon a time' where the Canopus forums were a place where people helped each other out and there was a REAL sense of community (yeah there were one or two 'awkward' people, but they were weeded out and generally 'policed' by the whole community.

                      Which worked well...

Nowadays I find the forums a 'knife edge' place to be... Its a shame really, anyone who has owned/been using canopus hardware for a while will i'm sure be able to relate to what I mean...

I'm all for change, its just that the 'big stick' seems to be coming out a bit too often these days.

                      rant over

I have been a member of this (and the original) forum since day one and I have always concidered this to be the place to find helpfull and friendly advice, so I am with Paul on this one, a well mannered reply would be much more appreciated by us lesser mortals.

I know that you can "trawl" through all the posts to find the answer to a question, but surely a simple question like Paul`s is not too much to ask, oh and by the way, Happy New Year.

Has anyone tried searching for edius 4.6 posts?
I am of the same vein that I think it was a question deserving of a simple answer, so I tried searching for 4.6......... you can't, the word is too small, so any "version" of text like edius 4.6, edius 4.6 release date, etc etc returns the same message all the time, the word 4.6 is too small to search.
So, how can someone who has only seen this one post, like me, find out anything about 4.6?

                          Happy new year everyone :)

No, full information on v4.6 has been posted because the update isn't available yet, nor is it about to become available in the next few days.

Information will be placed in a sticky post within the announcement forum. If you take advantage of the RSS feature, it'll show up with your RSS feeds too.

Regarding the inability to search - try searching for "EX1" - you'll see many post regarding EX1 support, 4.6 and its likely arrival.

I might sound short, frank, curt, but that's because I (like my fellow moderators), have a lot of ground to cover just in these forums alone.

As for the 'Old Forums' vs 'these forums' - the aim is to create an organic knowledge base - this is a mandated change required to even keep a forum alive. Some may have a hard time accepting this. Others have already left. But I like to think that these forums and its direction, have been very successful.

Bryan I do understand what you are saying, but i have to tell ya the old forum had turned into a click of a few users and others did not feel welcome.

The sarcasim and plain meaness of some of the users had people leaving in groups.

Even though it has the blessing from Grass Valley and they would have asked for changes anyway, I presented the new forum idea to the others and everyone agreed.

We want to make sure that eveyone can find what they need here.

If at times it sounds like we are being a little to short it is not intended. All three of us want to help the best we can but even we have rough days! :)
