Alternative to MP4

In exporting from the timeline this would mean two conversions? Export edited story to make one file probably Edius HQ and then import that file in to Handbrake to make the mp4.

that is no issue for me, the end result is great

What data rate do you use for Mpg2?

25mbps and PCM audio

and if I want really good, I change to 4:2:2 and set 50mbps
