  • Can't create Proxy!

    I have an HD project using a Canon C300 (1920x1080 MXF 8 bit 50Mbps) and 2 Arri Amira cameras (3200x1800 10bit ProRes4444 700 Mbps).

Obviously in a multicam project due to the big data rate its struggling to read the data fast enough, even in 1/4 res, so I simply want to make some proxy files for a fast and simple "offline" edit with a client tomorrow. However its only letting me create Proxy's on the HD file but not the Arri footage (It's greyed out!).

Any idea why? Is this a bug?

I don't really want to convert everything to HQX as I'll loose any file association with the original clip.

Here is a clip for anyone who wants to try it - literally a couple of seconds of rubbish as an example! We Transfer - https://we.tl/t-1XWPHj4sMF

ok - perhaps many haven’t used Amira footage, but could someone explain why simply creating proxies of certain camera files isn’t possible (option is greyed out) when it plays and edits in the timeline.

We have been able reproduce. We have asked our QA department to investigate.

Actually Steve, seeing as I sent you literally 1 second of fairly static footage, I'm happy to beta test any fix to this with my large project and test small medium & large proxies to see if it all works and feedback.
Also the plot thickens - I've just imported some footage off my iphone and the option to create a proxy from this is greyed out (I'm in a 1920x1080 30fps project to match the phones settings). Matt

            Hi Matt,

This is specificication at this time. According to or QA department ProRes 4444 has alpha. Due to the current specs you cannot create proxies for clips which have an alpha channel.

Proxies of the following clips cannot be created:
            Clips other than video clips
            Still image clips
            Title clips
            Clips already containing a proxy
Clips with a bitrate smaller than the proxy
            Clips with alpha channel
            Clips with a frame rate other than 23.98 fps/24 fps/25 fps/29.97 fps/30 fps/50 fps/59.94 fps/60 fps
Clips with an audio sampling rate other than 48000 Hz, 44100 Hz and 32000 Hz
            Partially transferred clips
            Steve

Thanks Steve. That's very frustrating, especially as the 444 part has so much data and camera rushes doesn't use the alpha channel as it's all full frame (if that makes any sense!) It would be lovely in that instance to have a tickbox feature to ignore alpha channel when creating proxies.

That is a nice Idea will submit it to be listed. This does mean that if will be added to be clear.

I understand your frustration but at this time I cannot offer anything else. :)

i will say that the Alexa 4k footage that I have is easy to manipulate. I can get 4 layers to work decently in multicam. This is on a 4790k. If I add the PCC prior to doing the multicam work, it does bog down.
A more current processor would be able to handle this footage with ease.

It is terrible that we cannot create proxy files from ARRI 4K PRORES 4444. This is standard footage in film industry and needed in case you have to edit outside with older pc or notebook, please fix it soon.
