Edius and Vista outlook

Good to hear that some can get it to work. I`ve tried installing using Windows compatibility mode for XP(SP2), as well as a straight install, but still get the message "Edius Main" has stopped working. PCE, the Titler and Disc Capture modules open OK but not the main Edius module.

My system has Vista Ultimate, 3GB RAM and the media centre on it. The intention was to run Edius in ohci. It turns out that hardware on the pc shipped to me is not as I specified.

Finally I appear to have got it installed and opening. My problem appears to have been trying to get it open in v4.0 - which it failed to do. Once I got around to copying the 4.54 update across and installing that it seems to open OK, files will import and play in windows and from timeline. Yet to try capture and editing.

I don't know how any manufacturer thinks we need all that crap.

They have contracts with these companies. I don't see why you wouldn't have the right to call up Microsoft and ask them to send you a CD of Vista so you can use the serial provided to you so you can install it fresh.

Correction ... all 32 bits OS today (Windows XP, Vista) maps 4GB address space with about 2.5GB for user programs. The high order addresses are reserved by device drivers ... especially the video card, and PCI-express.

No matter how you fine tune your Windows OS, you can never get the usable RAM to be above about 2.8GB virtual. The norm is about 2.5GB.

If you have programs like Adobe After Effects or Photoshop that can exploit the memory to the greatest effect, install Win 64 (XP or VISTA) on a multi-boot partition. Then you can see things like AE using 4GB RAM, Photoshop using 3.5GB RAM, etc - figures that you will never see in Win 32 world.

And if you run out of ram just plug in a usb 1 or 2 gig memory stick and edius will use that as memory too.
That is if you use ready boost.

Recommendations :usb is equal in size as system memory. Ready boost is very useful for photoshop I hear.

If you know how to tweak vista you don't need that much memory.
Also lost of crap comes loaded on the vista notebooks.
I don't know how any manufacturer thinks we need all that crap.

It should add the PAE/3GB switch for you automatically. At home I have a Pentium 4 (OC'd to 3.6Ghz) and I just added 2GB of PC6400RAM, for a total of 3GB. It's running very smooth.

Vista needs at least 2GB. RAM is really cheap, so it's worth popping in 4GB of RAM even though Vista doesn't see it all.

he does portraits, usually 20" x 30" or larger at 300dpi

everything he does worked faster under XP so he did go back to XP

Get a Mac for that :)

You can get it down to ~400MB on idle if you disable Aero. With Aero it is about 600MB. Vista 32bit can see upto 4GB of RAM, with only 3.5GB usable. Unless you're working with 1200dpi images in Photoshop, 2GB is enough for Vista and mid size photoshop work.

Although not officially supported I use EDIUS daily in Vista / ochi without any ill effects. ( a few known issues xplode pro and some 3d acceleration)
One of my friends here on the forum uses Edius in Vista too.
We both use the home premium version.

Mind you that there is no official Edius Vista support.

I have acquired a Dell XPS with Intel Q8600 chip to be ready for AVCHD and Bluray play/burn. My attempts to install Edius on it have so far failed three times (v4 upgrade from v3). My experience seems similar to someone else`s reported earlier, found via a search on "Vista installation", namely that not everything gets installed.

I have read that Edius Neo supports Vista. Is there any information about when Edius Pro will do so? Unfortuantely I am now stuck unless I use the Premiere Elements that has come bundled with my new pc. Allegedly it is capable of burning Bluray discs - tho I have not tried it; nor do I want to have to rely on Elements for my video editing.
