  • Different catastrophic error on export issue

I've posted about this before but I have a new symptom with this so I'm making a new post.

Since I updated to Edius 9.2, whenever I export to H.264, long or short timelines, %90 of the time, when the export gets to about %80-%90, it will stop and show "catastrophic failure" (screenshot). The difference between last time I had this is that all I have to do NOW is just click the export button again, tell Edius to overwrite the file, and it exports fine.

So all the previous solutions about 3rd party plugins, temp folders, etc... seems irrelevant since the second export ALWAYS exports fine (without even closing Edius).

This makes my export time DOUBLE since I have to export everything twice.
    I really need a solution.

is this an export with or without QS?

if with, try without, export speed without QS has been improved and quality is also better

      It's with QS.

I've been using QS for years and don't have a problem with it.

Exporting without QS would take 5 times longer.

          Hi Zvi

Whenever I've updated Edius, I also get the famous "catastrophic error".
I then revert to my original MB Intel HD driver and for sure the problem's
gone. I have tried in vain to use the drivers from Intel, although faster than the
original MB driver, still come up with the above error. My MB is Asus P8z77-V_Deluxe. My present Intel Driver is V917102828_for Win7.

          To encode a 2hour 51min from my Edius 8 WG timeline to H264 @ 16Mbs takes me 61mins.

Ok, Tomorrow I'll try Anton's thing (no QS).

I'l then try to revert my Intel driver to older version. My version now is 10.18.10.4885

              Hi Zvi

Although Intel recommended the 10.18.10.4885 driver, I tried it and got the
"catastrophic error" and that's when I went back to the 9.17.10.2828 driver.

The recommended driver from Intel was listed for my computer. I have yet to
find a driver from Intel that works without giving me that error.

This was also true by me with previous drivers with all version of Edius until Edius version 8. (Every time I upgraded Edius, I gave the newest driver a chance) Since v8 I was able to use the latest driver with no issue. Version 9.2 was the first time since 8 that this happened again. So yes, now that I think about it, I will try the driver thing first.

                  changed driver to 9.17.10.2828
                  Exported a 1.5 hr timeline.
                  No issues.

Will continue to monitor this in the days to come and update the post on my findings.

this Intel QS seems to be an ongoing issue, GV should investigate

luckily I don't suffer from that since I don't have or use QS

                      Hi Zvi

As I mentioned before, I found newer Intel Drivers, that were much faster than
my present driver, but alas, I sometimes got to 90% then bombed out with the
catastrophic error. I would try again and reach, maybe, 30% and as you said, this now takes longer than with a slower but steady driver.

As a matter of interest, how long did you take to encode your 1hr 30min timeline as I use a similar MB (Z77).

                      Thanks & regards

I never noticed a difference in QS speed with different drivers. I only know that with QS it's much faster.

I never actually timed the exports but I'll time it next time for you.
I just know that a 1.5 hour timeline that I put into export will be finished by the time I finish lunch and walk the dog - so maybe 30 minutes or so?

I would uninstall the Intel Device and remove all previous driver software. Sometimes having too many drivers stored can causes issues.

After rebooting, install the latest driver and test it. Worst case scenario, test the original driver that is on the motherboard installation disc. In my experience, those always work.
