  • Mixing Sequences and Markers

    Hello,

    I am preparing DVD's.

For each capture cassette I have 1 sequence with few cuts and with markers.

Now I want to create a new sequence that is the total of 3 sequences with their own markers.

What is the best procedure to obtain it : that means the total of the clips and the markers on the right place above the clips.

Exemple : a marker coming from sequence 3, where his position is 1 min 15 sec 12 images should be in the total sequence at 1h 21min 15 sec 12 images.

I hope it is possible to copy the clips with the markers attached.

Other similar question : In sequence 1, I have some clips with markers and commentary of the date of filming.... but in sequence 2 some clips should be taken out (with their markers) and inserted in the middle of sequence 1 to stay logic with the date....

Is there a way to copy these clips with their markers and insert them in sequence 1 and having all others clips and their markers already on sequence 1 moving to the right...

I am still in progress with the sequence per cassette hoping that the mixing will be possible.

    Thanks for help

sequence markers can't be copied to a new sequence because the current times would not match the destination times because you are joining sequences

the quickest way is to set them again, I am sure this will be easy since you see the cut point where the various sequences join, see attached

Thanks Anton for you idea... but considering my actual step it is bad news.

Films I receive needs more markers for the menu ... then just one per cassette
So you give me the idea to cut at each point

So to go fast to redo the markers on the new timeline I should cut before at each point. But what to do then with the text already introduced....

you can add a dummy color bar to a higher track on each sequence and set it to muted by pressing 0 (zero), then perform a cut in the bar clip at each sequence marker

then copy the sequence contents to the master sequence and add markers at bar cut points

it won't take long at all to do this

Thanks Anton but if I understand your way , it will not copy the text of comments...

I am surprised that a copy of both clips and markers (with the comments) from one to other sequence is not included....

you can export markers with comments and then import them to another sequence, but this will not work in your case since you are assembling many sequences to a new master sequence

            example:
sequence 1 is 60min with one marker at 30min
sequence 2 is 60min with one marker at 30min

now you add sequence 1 to a new master sequence and markers will be correct if imported
now you add sequence 2 to the end of the new master sequence, so you expect its marker to be at 60min and not 30min

this is simply not possible with EDIUS, because sequence markers are tied to the timecode displayed on the ruler

              Hi:
I have chosen the following procedure (principle):
Example with two sequences A and B as well as master sequence M.

              1. Open A > Export sequence markers ("Marker-A").
              2. Open M > Insert sequences A and B in the master sequence M (one after the other) > Import sequence markers "Marker-A".

              3. Determine Timecode ("tcAB") in Master M, where end of A = beginning of B.
              4. Open B > Settings > Sequence settings > Set TC preset to tcAB > Export sequence markers "Marker-B".
              5. Open M > Import sequence markers "Marker-B" .

Analog for more sequences (repeat steps 3. to 5. determining Timecodes tcBC, tcCD etc.)!

Maybe that's an algorithm you can live with (?).
              Greetings kurt

I just test it with complicate sequence... It works perfectly... 49 markers found their places with perfect respect of the time and comments.

Just one word : Bravo. Ouf course it is more time then just copy/paste but beter then cuts and redo placing and redo comments.

Thank you very much for these solution...

Thanks Anton. By chance, Kpot as found a workaround. It needs to be attentive and a little time but it preserves all previous encoding markers and comments.

                  Thanks for help anyway

I come back on these solution just to thank you.

I applied it several times... with success. Yess it works very good.
I have mixed sequences in the right order by addition and could recuperate the different markers of each sequence at the right "new" place of time.

                        Again, thanks very much.
