  • Need work flow advise

I have Sony HVR-V1u camcorder and borrowed a friends HVR-DR60 hard drive, just to see if it is as compatibe with the camera as advertised; and if Edius would handle the special files as advertised.
I tested SD and HDV record with and without tape in the camera. It all worked so well that I have to purchase my own now. Edius 4.54 worked flawlessly with the files, stiching about two hours of m2t files as well and the DV files together.
Now, to the question, on my P4 3gig HT , Storm computer; How should I go about the edit and output with the m2t files. Putting them on the timeline just bogs down the system to a crawl.

    Happy Holidays

Well with that computer, you won't be able to play m2t files correctly...convert them to Canopus HQ and you might be able to do 1 to 2 streams MAX, in SD mode...basically load a 16:9 DVStorm preset, then drop the Canopus HQ files on the timeline and start editing. Once you're finished, change the project settings to OHCI HD (720p or 1080, whichever you're doing) and export to whatever format you want. If you are going back to SD DVD, then keep using the DVStorm preset, and just export to DVD as usual.

Thank you for the info., so while on the timeline, the files are in SD ?

"Once you're finished, change the project settings to OHCI HD (720p or 1080, whichever you're doing) and export to whatever format you want. "

Let see if I understand this, when I set the project setting to OHCI 720, nothing changes until I select export, and I will have to have an additional firewire board (not Storm, but OHCI and the file can then be exported back to the camera tape or hard drive in some HD format ? (m2t or which) ?

      2. How does the Mpeg TS Writer function in the work flow?

And to think, a year ago, I thought this would be ultimate computer and the last one I would ever need!

        Last computer... (guffaw!)
        Nice one George.

The HVR-DR60 is a rockin' little piece of gear you'll never regret owning.
The best part is it records both DV and HDV at the same time. Really cool.

If you intend to output DVD, you're in luck. Stick with the DV files, because they're already wrapped in that gooey MS Codec (yum!) Edius eats it up and your machine will work adequately, provided you make your Project Settings SD. For me, HQ is a useless step for SD.

If you edit the m2t/HQ files you can export back to .m2t with Procoder (Speed Encoder may not work w/P4)
You can use the TS Writer to "print" the .m2t back to tape.

Welcome to the Forum George... have fun!
