  • Edius workgroup 9 and H.265 exporting

Hi, out of curiosity: do you know why Edius workgroup 9 can't export a H.265 file? Why a professional software like Edius workgroup 9 relies only on quick sync present only in cheaper CPUs? Yet there are free software that does it well. In your opinion could GV could solve this problem with the next updates?
    Thanks for some info.

    I dont understand that statement:
I use Edius-9.10 WG and can export h.265-8bit-files without any problem.

You have to have an Intel 6700-8700 chip to be able to export to H.265.
At this point, there isn't a native software h.265 encoder.

        I have Intel i9 7940X and Edius WG 9 and I can't export H.265.
I attach a screenshot, now I hope you understand.

          Jerry,
I was aware of it but it seems incredible. Why can HandBrake export a H.265 file but Edius WG 9 can't do it? HandBrake is very light and free. For this reason I have just asked I hope GV can solve this problem with the next updates.

            Hi:
When you are trying to export to h.265:
            - Is QuickSync active/accessible when Edius has ben started ?
            - If NOT:
--- Is there a monitor on the intel-GPU attached ?
--- Has the BIOS been set correct (iGPU enabled ...) ?
--- Ha sthe newest driver been installed ??
            Regards kurt

But did you read the post of Jerry? Quick sync is only in Intel 6700-8700 CPUs. It is not in other CPUs.

Searching the internet it seems indeed that i9-79xx has no quicksync.

                      Hi:
                      Indeed you asked three questions.
                      1. My first answer was related to the first question "do you know why Edius workgroup 9 can't export a H.265 file?" // In your first post there was no info about your procssor.
                      2. To the second question "Why a professional software like Edius workgroup 9 relies only on quick sync present only in cheaper CPUs?" I could not give any answer as I am no developer of Edius but a "normal" user.
Detto to the third question "In your opinion could GV could solve this problem with the next updates?".
                      Sorry - kurt

No, I said the 6700-8700 will do H.265. There are many other quicksync enabled i5 and i7 chips that do H.264.
I explained all of this when you were asking about processors.
The Z series chips that have the Intel Graphics onboard will do Quicksync. The X series chips do not have the Intel Graphics.

No one but the developer knows when or if a software solution for H.265 is coming. If you need H.265 so badly, either use Handbrake
or purchase Mastering Works 6 and leverage the power of your 1080ti to process using NVENC.

I have heard that initially only hardware encoding is possible, this gives a clear clue that software encoding will come

However, the quality of H265 is no better than H264, so there is no quality gain once it is available, the only benefit is smaller file size and that is not an issue for me
