Layouter preview not working

The preview window of the layouter does not work. I can choose 'play', It does play, but nothing happens in the preview windows until I choose 'stop' and then it jumps to the current frame. I took an old project where I know it worked, but no luck.
I already did a re-install (E9.1). No difference. I guess there is a setting I missed, but which one?

Hi:
As Anton said - thats "normal".
But if you do not choose the green play-button inside the layouter but use the right (or left) arrow-key on the keyboard then you will get both: Movement in the REC window AND in the preview window of the layouter.

Great tip, thank you.

I guess I mixed this up with the preview of the mask tool. Somewhere in the back of my head there is a little voice that says: this used to work when choosing play in the layouter. But if all say I got it wrong, it must be so.
