  • Edius 8-9 Choppy playback (really annoying)

Hello, my problem is that Edius 9 is has very choppy playback, so its really annoying when you try to Edit.
For now i edit at proxy mode but i have 60-70 projects per year so i need to get rid of this problem.
The footage is from Canon 80d. Edius 8 had same problem also.
    Edius 6 was fine though.
I shoot at 50p and i edit at 25p. i know that it doesn't match project settings, and if i edit 50p is better (but not so much) but why edius 6 was decent ?
I tried everything i found here and yet no luck.

    PC Specs : i7 6700k 4.0 ghz
    32gb RAM Hyper X 2133
AMD Radeon 390x 8gb Graphics card
Windows 10 Home (Before the format i had Windows 7 and still had the same problem)
And i'm working my projects at an WD 6gb Black. (i tried at SSD, still no luck).
I m editing also footage from C-100 Mark1 and its better from 80d but still its choppy enough.
    Any suggestions ?

make sure that optical flow has not been set as the default, otherwise you get choppy playback

only set optical flow on a clip per clip basis if you perform a slomotion but only if it looks better than the default of frame blending. Never set OF as default because it will apply it to the whole timeline even when not slowing anything

What is your buffer reading on playback? Can you provide a sample?

Optical flow is set at frame blending by default, and i didnt change it.

My playback buffer size is set to 2GB and buffered frames before playback at 5 frames.
The reading is : Buffer : ( 0/250 ) but it gets like 5-7 seconds to fill it, while in proxy mode and Edius 6 was almost instant. When i cut it takes a while to cut one single clip and when it cuts the cursor goes 10 frames below. When i undo it has the same delay.

          1. check your audio mixer and make sure all tracks are in off position

          2. open layouter on any clip that matches project setting pixel demension, set layouter to % view at top right, then check that all values are either 0% or 100%, if not, fix that and then save as default at bottom left

also, why are you posting in the Neo forum?

Also the values at layouter are ok, just like your attachment.
            Any other suggestions ?

Can you give some details of the assets you have on the timeline? We know the framerate.

Maybe post a couple of sample clips in a dropbox link for people to download and test with. It is hard to diagnose potential media issues without any media, as we don't all have C100's and 80D's

Is the choppy playback being viewed on your computer monitor or on an external monitor using an I/O card?
