  • Capture problem with EDIUS SP

I have a HDV camera, JVC GZ-HD7E(harddisk), and I have, I think, tried EVERYTHING to capture in Edius by using firewire, whithout any luck.
Is this a camera problem or is it something else I'm doing wrong?
    Anyone?

Since you are recording on a hard disk there is no need to capture anything...just connect your camera in a usb port and copy paste the footage to your computer's hd drive..

      Thanks Aristotelis.
Of course. It's me thinking the old traditional way.

It's me thinking the old traditional way
it is a AVCHD MPEG-4/H.264 file.....
I am not sure, if you can this file edit in Edius without convert to HQ.......

        > AVCHD-to-Canopus HQ Conversion Utility .........Released: 01/25/2007
This utility allows you to convert AVCHD MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) content to Canopus HQ AVI files for editing in EDIUS

The HD7 uniquely employs VBR (variable bit rate) encoding at up to 30Mbps with an average speed of 26.6Mbps. This compression rate leapfrogs AVCHD MPEG-4/H.264 compression, which has a theoretical max data rate of 24Mbps, but is currently implemented at a max of 15Mbps on Sony’s HDR-SR1. With so little information about MPEG-2 Transport Stream technology available at the time of this review, we can only speculate on the implications of what this new 30Mbps compression will produce, and how its efficiency compares to AVCHD. The question of whether JVC’s new algorithm will match or exceed HDV video quality (also an MPEG-2 format) in an HDD-based camcorder is certainly on our minds.

Hans is correct--you will have to use the AVCHD -> Canopus HQ converter to edit this content in EDIUS v4.24 and below. But it is a small program, a quick download, and easy to use.

And unless I'm totally mistaken, EDIUS v4.5 will allow you to import those AVDHD files directly to your bin, tho I still believe they will be transcoded to HQ by EDIUS....

Sadly, direct import of AVCHD is not in v4.5

A direct AVCHD (.m2ts) importer is being worked, but has no set release timeframe.

              I stand corrected! Thanks!

I think I was confusing ProCoder 3 with EDIUS 4.5. Not really sure what I was thinking....

Well, it wasn't so easy as I thought, to copy in an ordinary way from the JVC's hardisk and then convert in some way.
The files on the hardisk on the JVC GZ-HD7E ends with .TOD. The only way to get them to the pc's harddisk is to copy or backup with "Cyberlink PowerCinema NE for Everio" via the USB cable. From there I have to use the "Cyberlink PowerDirector Express" to import the clip. The Powerdirector on import converts it to *.mpg.

Edit: Correction. I can see the JVC's disk and TOD-files in the Windows Explorer.

Just looked at the spec sheet and it clearly says that MPEG-2-TS is recorded. AVCHD would be MPEG-4. You may try the following: rename the copied files to *.m2t and try to import them.

Try doing the following and see what happens

                    1. Connect your GZ-HD7E to PC with your USB cable.
                    2. Copy the TOD files to your HDD
                    3. Change the file extensions from TOD to m2t
                    4. Import these files in Edius

                      Zorro and Aristotelis,

Great, it works, by renaming the TOD-file to M2T and I can open the clip directly in EDIUS (4.24)

                        Another Solution

Set up a "Watch Folder" in Pro Coder Express, must have Procoder running on the Monitoring Watch folder add the files and WALLAH they will be transcoded to your preset. I set mine to HI DEF HQ and the files appeared in EDIUS with the Watch folder set there
                        Absolutely magic
