  • Moving Markers When Adding Clips

Trust me to find something new I can't piece together from tutorials or help; this time it is markers. I set markers and can move them if I like by dragging, but what do I do when I insert a clip? it moves my timeline, but not my markers. I use the marker descriptions as my chapter points when printing to DVD, so I find it frustrating to constantly have to move my markers when I make a change to the timeline, and have it ripple through the entire project.

Perhaps there is a freeze markers button (nail them down, lock them, threaten them if they move?, you get the idea).

Thanks for the help. I think I will stay with doing (and naming) the markers as I go along, because it is a super-fast way the get to the exact clip I want on the timeline, and it is usually not hard to move them, as I normally place them at beginning of clips, and I can just "Ctrl+ right arrow" and drag the marker. I was just hoping their was an easier way.

            Moving markers with clips

            Hi Fellas

I too, like to set markers as I go along and was looking for this as a new feature back in Edius 2 days .. in the days when SD was still No 1.

After a gap of about 6 years or so I have resumed my video hobby, now with Edius 6.5 and HD (have loaded Edius 5 initially which was gathering dust on the shelf for two years and I still had the NX for HDV card - the old PCI X version - in an unopened box and also gathering dust for a lot longer than Edius 5). I have 6.5 on the shelf until this project is finished with Edius 5.

Current project (kayaking trip to Antarctica) is on 2 single layer bluray disks of 2.5 hours each and in a long form project such as this, making one change at the beginning of the timeline when doing final edits becomes a pain in the butt shifting all the markers one by one and prone for error too.

Any idea if rippling markers will be possible or selecting them all to shift in one go will be a new feature someday?

Many years ago I mentioned this but it appeard that the software designers of Edius do not consider it a worthwhile feature. I would love to have the timeline markers move as clips are added, deleted or their length changed, this constant "re-adjusting" of time line marker positions is a real pain in the backside. Maybe (hopefully) it will happen one day, maybe with a 64 bit version 7, who knows (but I am not holding my breath for 64 bit or automatically re-adjusting timeline markers, as in the past, we will get what we are deemed to have by the designers

There have been statements on several occasions that GV doesn't want to copy from other industry standard programs and have come up with their own p.i.t.a ways of doing things.
Don't expect the marker story to change, we old timers have hammered on that until some have been banned from the forum.
Hope you have a long breath :)

I assume this sought-after feature has not been added in Edius 7 ... SEVEN YEARS later?

My solution is going to be to author a separate title for the intro, rather than figuring out and moving 36 markers. I'm foruntate in that regard that I am just adding something to the beginning.

OR, there might be a function (IIRC) in my authoring app that allows me to move my markers X amount of seconds ... that would work too.

It was not broken so nothing has to be fixed. The feature has not been added that is fair.

Actually there are clip markers but they do not show up at the same place the Timeline markers do.

You add them to the clips themselves in the Player window and you can add comments also.

They do move with the Clips but are on the clips and not as easy to see.

It would be nice to have Clip markers that are as easy to see as the others :)

True ... I'll correct that to "added in seven years."

Don't get me started on the clip markers ... single most disappointing feature that was long sought, and a large disappointment. The clip marker's really need to be made like other NLE's (and all other apps I use with markers and timelines) where you can add the markers to clips that are ON THE TIMELINE. Not sure why it was implemented the way it was ... I pretty much don't use them as a result.

I don't know how long is this a feature request...
Maybe GV will argue (again) that this is "not requested by the broadcast industry"! ;)
