I do nothing but HDV. I have a PNY NVIDIA GeForce 7600GS (256MB) video card. No problems with Edius 4.54. I capture thru the NX card.

I am using an old 6600GT with only 128mb with little or no problem.
Since I have upgraded my monitors to 2 22 inch widescreen at 1680x1050 and using the left screen for FULL screen playback set to "field" update I am occasionally now having the "overlay" disappear (purple screen) when switching between sequences.
Sometimes clicking on the task bar (Windows) or going into task manager and selecting Edius again fixes the problem but sometimes Edius needs to be restarted, The latest nvideea drivers improved the situation slightly but I am upgrading to a 8800GTX to see if any improvement can be made, still waiting for it to arrive. NOTE no NX card tooo much trouble with compatibility, OK if it works OK, better to spend the money on a faster computer and other means of monitoring.
I use a DVICO A5000 on the lan to output each sequence in m2t format and then playback to a monitor / projector to check for any issues, cheaper and NO problems with compatability
    Regards Barry

I think thats mostly system horsepower

With most cards its usually just two monitors of your choice, unless you have another card in your system like a NX

If by fancy card, you mean edius NX, then yes :) I'm pretty sure thats the only way you'll get proper HDV out to an external monitor.

I've edited, and captured HDV with a 256mb card and had no issues - check for latest drivers for your card :)
