  • How to save a customized Menu Style?

How can I save my own customized Menu Style (in Burn-to-Disc) so I can use it again in a next project?

Can't imagine that this option is not available and you have to do the customization every project again.

    Am using Edius 8.31

If you are under the assumption that the 'burn to disc' feature is an authoring program, well, surprise.

As you have discovered, each project's menu is formed from templates.

If this type of customization feature is what you need, among other more professional options, you should look at 3rd party authoring packages.

For DVD I would suggest DVD Lab Pro 2: http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/dvdlabpro.html

If you do both DVD and Blu-Ray, take a look at TMPGE TAW 5.

TAW 6 is pretty close to being released.

These are just a couple of options that are out there and they both have trials.

Thanks for your response. Correct, the Menu Style's are part of the Authoring in the Burn-to-Disc function of Edius.

It's a simple proces to export your edited footage from the time line to a DVD.

From the many given pre-set Menu Styles you pick out the one closest to what you need and make the changes you want. Sofar no problem however you cannot store them for re-use in a next project. I don't need third party Authoring programs. It makes the whole proces more time consuming.

If only I could save the personalized Menu Styles! Anyone knows how to?

        It can be done

        1. start a new project (as mostly needed) and click save
        2. add a color matte or color bar clip to timeline
        3. mark in and out
        4. start disk burner and make all settings you need with your custom menu, no need to burn
        5. return to EDIUS with save
        6. delete in and out and the color matte, click save
        7. file menu, save as template and call it DVD etc.
Using templates in EDIUS 8.1 or later to speed up the workflow of new projects

        8. when starting a new project, instead of choosing a preset, choose the template

you can save as many templates as you like to fit various project types

Thanks Anton. This looks to be a simple and good workaround!

Anton's suggestion is the best one.

            The alternative is:
Menus are made from some pictures and a text file which determines how the pictures are position, text colour etc.
You can change the pictures (the background, buttons) quite easily. Find the folder and the relevant picture and change it.

If you can understand the text file then you could make your own menus. I had a long fiddle once, however, it was a real PITA. One error in the text file and none of the menus showed up in disc burner.

I put a couple of chapters about it on my tutorial and I did manage to make some custom menus. There is no documentation about this (I did ask for some).

I did all this with EDIUS 7. With EDIUS 8 I would use project templates.

              Anton,

Unfortunately the template doesn't store a personalized Menu Style in it.

Better to save it as a project as well so you can start it every time you want to start a new project by choosing "Creating a New Project Using Existing Project as Template"

I just tried this with 8.32 and it worked for me. I had customised some backgrounds, text and colours and all were saved. I follows Anton's instruction's above, just left the colour matte on the timeline instead of deleting it.

it works fine here with the template method

you must have forgotten to return to EDIUS with a save from disk burner after making your custom menu

after that you save as template
