  • Getting frustrated

I have been working on a normal sized project for me in HD. I am using HQ codec. I have been getting lots of lockups with Edius 4.54 when using the YUV and WHite balance filters. I was also getting lots of lockups with the 3dPnP filter earlier.

I have had very little problems with Edius and lockups till now. I have even rebooted completely. It worked great for about 5 minutes and locked up again on a white balance filter.

Would an uninstall and reinstall of Edius clean up the problem? Any ideas?

I am a huge Edius fan and brag about it all the time but right now I am feeling like a PPro user.

    Hi there,

can you post your system specs? Is this a fresh install of Windows?

Most of the time, lockups are caused by system issues..

It is definately a new issue since it never happened to me before. It's already been discussed here and it seems like it doesn't happen for everyone.

it maybe graphics card or driver related

I am using an older card and driver and don't have that problem, but other users have reported it

I noticed in the thread indicated below that some of the people having probs were using the GeForce 6600. I have the GeForce 6600GT as well. Did a graphics card replacement solve the problem for anyone.

My system is AMD X2 4800

          Any other specs you need.

I am also using DirectDrawOverlay in Edius.

There could be the problem in RED SLI and video editing have been a NO NO for as long as SLI has been out, I use an almost identical set up but no SLI as I ran into this a long time ago with PPro and Media Studio Pro
My MB is a GB K8NXP-9 (no SLI) and no problems.
I dont know why the SLI causes problems but my problem ceased once I opted for a non SLI board, luckily when I changed the board it was to a non SLI, same brand and model but no SLI and all the drivers just worked as they were the same, I now opt for a non SLI each time, similar to you it took an upgrade to bring the problem on in both PPro and MSP

My old P4 2.8Ghz that went out the door a couple of months ago had the nVidia 6600, had zero issues.

Maybe it's some type of conflict...

Funny you mentioned the MB with the SLI as a possible culprit. When I was about to build this system a Canopus tech told me this motherboard was going to be ready for an as yet to be released Canopus product because of the Express slots. Turns out a few weeks after I built it NX with the express slot appeared. I don't have NX. We are running straight OHCI.

When you mentioned the problem with SLI does it matter that I am only using one graphics card and not the SLI capabilities. Why did I have no problems until recently. This system has been rock solid for over a year.

I will try downloading an updated driver and directX and see what happens.

I am going back around 3 years and the MSP site was full of this problem, some had it (Lockups) and some did not BUT all were cured by changing to a non SLI board including mine. It was also interesting that as per my problem all appeared OK for some time then started giving problems.
It is quite possibly a conflict with another program interfacing with the SLI interface. Once I had fixed the problem I did not bother to go any further and at that time I changed to EDIUS which has been rock solid compared to the others.
I only used ONE card not two, SLI I believe was only brought in for advanced games where multi monitors could be used with the MAX memory available for texture and 3D which we do not need.
I am using the latest motherboard driver from nvideo 6.86 and Graphics driver 163.75, Direct X 9 June 2007 and NO antivirus (Standalone) hope this helps

Yesterday I downloaded the latest driver for the nVidia card. The release notes mentioned some of the fixes were for compatibility problems with SLI. We will see if anything improves. I only had a chance to play with a few clips after the download. I will give it a better test today. The release date on the drivers was Nov 2007 so they are pretty recent.

It could be your ram, try remove one of the ram block and do your editing
and see what happen, then set it back and remove the other one...,

OK....the downloaded driver for the video card didn't do the trick so I am trying the RAM removal to see if we can narrow it down. I have locked it up quickly today twice by using the YUV filter and dragging the top nub of the Y box to the left a little, dragging the bottom nub to the right a little and then grabbing somewhere in between. Each time Edius froze.

It wasn't a full system freeze or Edius Poof. It was just a lockup that CTRL+ALT+DEL fixed.

Ok....I have to report back. I tried removing one stick of RAM and no improvement. Still locked up right away. I powered down, swapped sticks or RAM and WOW....no lockups. Of course RT stunk because of only one MB or RAM. So I put the other stick of RAM back in the other slot and so far all is good. I have been editing in a stable environment for a few hours now. I have done probably 20-25 color correction functions and no lockup.

I basically have swapped RAM sticks in the ports. My second stick probably has a bad spot in it somewhere on the end as it is functioning ok and not bumping into the bad spot...at least I assume that is what is happening. I will be getting a replacement set of RAM Sticks soon just to cover myself.

                            So far so good....:-)
