  • Is this possible

Is this possible to transcode hdv .m2t files captured in EdiusPro to
hdv .mov (hdv spec.) file. (ie asif the files were captured in FCP to edit in FCP).
I have some clips to send to someone who is on a MAC with FCP 5.X.
I tried Edius, Procoder and MPEG Stream clip.No way to transcode.

    Thanks

To the best of my knowledge NO.
FCP should recognize the m2t files you have downloaded but, it is going to be a struggle to edit them depending on the power of the MAC unless they are transcoded.
I believe the new intel processor MAC's can handle files encoded with Procoder 3 as the MAC shop here sells Procoder for use in transcoding in windows and then editing in MAC but that is the limit of my knowledge.
    Sorry not much help

      Hi Barry,
Found a solution for this scenario. Mpeg Streamclip for MAC version can import .m2t files and convert it to .mov (hdv spec}. But on the other hand Mpeg Streamclip for Windows version is not capable of doing it. FCP 5.X is not even recognizing .m2t files. When I renamed it to .mpg I could open the file in time line but dont play any picture. The MPEG streamclip exported video clip
works fine in an FCP HDV time line.

      Rajiv
      Thanks

        Sorry Rajiv
Somewhere in the back of my mind I had done this but could not remember since I have been using PROCODER exclusively
The way to do it is as follows
        Open PC Express from Edius
Select Convert source to a different format
        select "Select a generic target"
select Quicktime Export file or quicktime
and you are on your way
The other method is to set up a "Watch Folder" in PC Express with all the parameters and where the files are to be saved.
Then drag the files to the watch folder and PC Express will convert them in turn.
Sorry for the delay but my mind just went blank and when I was asked to do this again for a friend who reminded me I had done it before for him, I will say no more
        Regards Barry

          Hi Barry
Tried it again as you described in your post, the file it create is an h.264 .mov
format.I tried to open it back in Edius but failed. Procoder can open it again
and the source properties shows it as an h.264 movie file. So far I think the only way is at the MAC end with MPEG streamclip and the file which MPEG streamclip produced plays back fine in FCP in a HDV standard sequence.

          thanks
