I need to be able to edit a timeline then drag certain clips to a bin and render them to individual files. Can I do that in Edius?

or you do it a bit quicker by shortcuts. maybe this helps a bit and in this way you can use any preset for exporting:
- mark clip in the bin -> STRG+C
- new Sequence STRG+SHIFT+N
- paste it STRG +V
either you press now F11 for file export or you go to file > export > add to batch (for this you need to assign a shorcut), check the other option add to batch with "standard export", but make sure you defined the "standard export" in the file export menu before.
OR
you use the clips on the timeline, mark it, press Z (put in and out around the clip) and use menu edit > add sequenz to bin > IN/OUT (maybe add a shortcut?).
now you have again a single clip (with filters) in a single sequenz and you can add that sequence to the batch list.
hope it helps

But mov was not a specific requirement in you original request.
What you do is mark those five clips from the active timeline with in and out one after the other and add them to the batch list.
After you have done that activate the batch export.

If you want more control over each file's export parameters, and to do it as a batch, then you have to export from the timeline. While this way isn't as quick a setup as a bin export, it's real simple and once the batch is running you can walk away and let it get on with it. This way allows for codecs and parameters that you can't select if it's a bin conversion.
Another advantage of doing it as a batch from the timeline is that you can selectively choose parts of the file instead of the whole file. For instance. You've got some long captures/sources and you don't need the entire file encoding. You can simply mark up multiple I/O points for the content you need and export only those sections.
If some of the new functions from the 'Burn to Disk' tool translate to the timeline export/encode engine. Then the functionality of the batch exporter will become even more flexible.
You've also got the option of creating a sequence and filling it with all your native clips and exporting an AAF with rendered media. This gives more options than a simple bin conversion and is a quicker setup than a timeline batch.
In any event, Edius offers three great and easy ways to convert multiple files. The choice is yours.

For ultimate parameter options, then a timeline batch is the way to go.
