  • Update to 8.3 --> License Manager?

It seems like I've done something wrong. Maybe I was not patient enough.
At least, I tried to find information in the 8.3 release notes, but could not find anything (or was too blind to see). Also, general information about installation of updates are missing or well hidden on the GV website.

    # So, I wanted to update my 8.22 WG to the new 8.3 (on Win7).
    # I did so by letting 8.22 as it was and then running the 8.3 setup.exe on top.
    # During the installation it asked me to close License Manager or let itself close License Manager and reboot the whole thing after installation.
    # Since I could not close License Manager manually, I chose the automatic option.
    # After reboot, unfortunately License Manager did not seem to be updated.

When I try to start Edius, I get the error message "Activation failed. This GV License Manager is not the newest version. Please update to the newest version. Error code: 3.22AB0.4EEE"

When I try to start the License Manager, it tells me the exact same. Only the error code has additional numbers: 3.22AB0.4EEE.21

When I try to rerun the 8.3 setup.exe in order to maybe finally treat GV License manager manually, setup aborts with the message "Setup failed. A newer version of Edius 8 is already installed. One or more issues caused the setup to fail. Please fix the issues and then retry setup."

Besides the fact that I am really becoming angry about this ridiculously bad documentation of the whole licensing system, I need a solution now.

    Therefore:
    # Is there a download / thing / whatever that enables me to manually update the GV license manager?
    # Or should I run the 8.22 setup to get rid of 8.3? And if, how do I finally operate the update correctly?
    # Should I completely unistall Edius? But in that case: how could I deactivate the license prior to that?

Sorry for the rant (again), and thank you very much for suggestions - or even solutions :-)

    make sure anti-virus is disabled

    1. uninstall EDIUS from cpanel (keep activation)
    2. uninstall GV License manager from cpanel
    3. reboot and empty hidden Temp in appdata/local
    4. disable anti-virus
    5. install EDIUS

License manager will fail to install or remove with certain anti-virus

I didn't have any issue. Didn't disable NOD32 antivirus, didn't unistall EDIUS 8.2, just installed 8.3, didn't reboot, opened a project that was in the middle of editing and everything just works fine except GV Browser - which never opened for me ever.

That doesn't stop it from being his AV if has has it though. Different AV's act differently.
We recently had a system back in for an upgrade, and the McAfee AV software they'd installed was stopping us from installing updated nVidia graphics drivers. We had to disable it in msconfig then reboot as just turning it off in the software it didn't stop it from running in the background

To stop the license manager was the only action I had to do.
            Then no installation-problems.

Yeah, that worked! Thank you, Anton.

              Interesting side notes:
              # I have no anti virus software running, not even the windows firewall!
              # The version info of GV License Manager said it was 8.3.0.123. Therefore, the installation must have been successfull in a way, but at some point the it must have chocked.

However, it's running now. Thank you all for your suggestions!

                Cant Unistall WG 8?

I installed the new update 8.32, but it didn't update. So I went to control panel uninstalled WG 8, it uninstalled. But My Icon was still on desktop so I click on it, post uninstall, WG8 opened though it uninstalled? So I though it must not have uninstalled , returned to control panel programs and features, There is no more Edius in my programs and features, it did uninstall, but, it is still on my computer and will not upgrade nor is there anything to click to uninstall it????? It appears there were two installed at one time? Now I cant get the second one off? Any clue what to do please!

can you confirm that you also uninstalled the GV License Manager

search your C drive for EDIUS.exe and then you know where it is if it still exists

can I see a screenshot of all installed programs in control panel, sorted alphabetically

Have you tried using Windows system restore to go back before you removed Edius to see if that brings it back into the control panel?

that has to be a Win10 glitch to have a program present and not showing up in cpanel, programs

I really don't know what to suggest in this case, maybe Revo uninstaller sees the program?
