  • Boris Graffiti 5.1 For Rolling Titles?

Is anyone out there using Boris Graffiti 5.1 as a titler to replace the roll problem with TM? I just got it and am trying to work out a good system for using it. The Boris-supplied "help" for working with Edius isn't a whole lot of help so far. Maybe somebody has a plan that works well?

AFAIK Red works the same for titling. What have you been able to do and what exactly are you struggling with?

You should be able to apply Graffiti as a filter to the section of video you want to title. Plain rolls shouldn't be very processor intensive at all.

The ad for Graffiti says I should be able to use it right from my Edius program, but I can't figure out how to get at the title tool for Graffiti unless I open up the Graffiti program. I can find the Graffiti effect in my Edius Effects list, but nothing for creating a title. Maybe you're not supposed to be able to open up the titler tool like you would a Quick Titler or Title Motion?

Out of complete laziness, I don't have my dongle with me.

Again, I don't have Graffiti, but the Boris programs have interface and application consistency. You should at least have a filter item similar to this picture.

If not, you may have an installation issue. Did you have any problems during installation? Did you go through the process of selecting Edius as the host NLE?

Ahh, I read your post incorrectly--I see now that you said you CAN find the Graffiti effect.

Creating a roll is one of the easier things to do. Here's a quick how-to clip:

I suspect the same will apply for FX as RED and in red the recommendation is
Export the video as a file for the period of the TITLE.
Import into Boris as a video and then add the credits / title and export
Edius does not support cross clip titles from Boris.
The other alternative is to generate the title in Boris and the export with Transparent Alpha using Canopus HQ which supports Transparent Alpha and bring into Edius as a clip over all the clips, the advantage of this is that the clip can be manipulated in Edius using 3D PIP, the disadvantage is that the 1:2:1 pull down available in Boris seems to be circumvented

Hmmm...I'm not sure I understand, Barry.

I am guessing that by "Edius does not support cross clip titles from Boris," you are referring to the fact that Boris titles, as filters, can't be applied to/span multiple clips. If that is what you're saying, there are two methods spanning multiple clips in Edius; (1) nested sequences (i.e., place the initial sequence in a new sequence and apply the filter to that) or (2) apply the Boris plug-in as a transition (I think that Graffiti might install a transition option). Either of these methods is easy and straightforward, but I'd be happy to post a demonstration clip.

Even if those options didn't exist, you wouldn't have to go to the extra steps of exporting a clip and using Boris as standalone, you could simply choose "render and add to timeline" for the section you want to title and apply the filter to that new timeline clip.

Thanks for that, the idea of using sequences had not even entered my mind.

                  Graffiti Help - Thanks!

Thanks very much for the titling help - especially to you Roy! The video presentation was great! Clear and concise. I don't think I'll have any more trouble.

This forum has been answering questions I have almost everytime I read thru it.

Thanks for the reminder. I think we all need to be careful not to forget that.

No problem. Example clips are fun.

So, does Graffiti have both filter and transition items? If it can be applied as a transition, that provides an interesting option that's not very obvious--if it does, I'll make a clip of that.

I also noticed that your sig say you have a PIII. Is that serious? In one way, I envy people who don't feel compelled to upgrade, but there are some rendering tasks that are going to be killer on that thing.

i usually use this method :

                        1. "set IN and OUT" in clip that want to add title (or effect)
                        2. then "render betwen IN & OUT and add to timeline"
                        3. add boris red as effect
                        4. set title (or effect) as i want....
                        5. apply
                        6. done!
