  • Can only apply transistion to video clips?

I can apply a default transition between 2 video clips per normal.

However, I cannot apply the same default transition between 2 STILL clips (still jpg pictures) unless I first select one of the clips on either side of the transition (I do NOT have to select a clip if they are video clips). It's very slow to have to select a clip before applying a transition.

What am I missing? I assumed a user setting or similar but I've looked everywhere I can think of and can't get it. Thanks

Thank You Anton. I am sure to click the track header in both cases, and I use CNTL P. But it only works between video clips, NOT JPEG stills.

Is there a setting to not allow extending the length of stills to accommodate dissolves (unless selected) that I can't find, perhaps? I say this because it does work of I SELECT the clip before applying the dissolve.

Based on your demo mpeg (thank you) it obviously works on your system as expected.

      Any other ideas appreciated?

is extend clips ticked in user settings, timeline? however it should also work without but not if ripple mode is on and something on another track is blocking movement

can I see a screenshot of the two stills on timeline with track headers and modebar visible

Here are my settings and timeline. Thanks for review.

I also noticed something odd: When applying default transition between the jpg and video clip, E8 applied a dossovle between the jpg & video, and ALSO a dissolve on the audio track only of the next transition. I don't get that.

          Thanks for any suggestions.

you have ripple mode on in the mode bar, turn it off and never turn it on again and all will be well

also your project setting appears to be 8 channel audio, are you doing 7.1 surround sound projects? instead of stereo 2 channel?

In your Timeline User settings, uncheck the second option about inserting defailt crossfade in transition.

Thanks for the input, but neither suggestion had any effect on the issue. Overwrite/insert made no difference, ripple on/off made no difference.

Unchecking insert crossfade stopped the crossfade being made at the next transition, so that is good to know. But the original problem remains.

But the original problem remains: the only way I can use Cntl-P (or Alt-1) to insert dissolve is that I have to select one of the jpg's first. And it works fine on the video clips. I know I never saw this in E7, I can't find what it is.

                Suggestions please?

can you start a new test project and add two stills next to each other, select track header and place playhead at cut point, see if Ctrl+P works

I just tested here and there is no problem doing this with nothing selected. Have you tried just having the Track selected?

Thanks for input. I have tried just selecting the track, all tracks, various combinations. Sync lock on/off etc. I can't find anything where JPg's would be affected and not video clips.

I will set up a new project tomorrow and experiment more. I'll report back.

                      Thanks for the suggestions.

                        Note:

If any clip on the timeline is selected such as the audio track in your screenshot, Ctrl+P will not work, see attached

so be sure to click empty space of timeline to deselect all

and another thing I just noticed, you are placing stills in a VA track, that is wrong, use a V track

stills don't have audio and as a result Ctrl+P may fail

IMHO, Ctrl P is a waste of time and it is best just to drag and drop. Then you don't have to worry about track or clip selections, cursor placement, etc.

I use Cntrl P a lot and also drag and drop. I'm glad for the options. It all works for me...sometimes I can easily use the keyboard to select the next clip and then to the end of the clip then hit Cntrl P...
