I have previously posted this as a feature request but i feel i need to
bring it up again. Many times in the past i have come accross a situation where it would be very usefull to be able to have sequences in a project that have different project settings.
I understand that there is a limitation on having sequences of different frame rates in the same project buit the same limitation is not so for sequences at different resolutions or aspect ratios.
The latest situation where i have needed it was as follows:
I was working on a project where were shooting a series of interview panels. As the panelists often talk over each other and the final footage needs to be a series of talking heads, it is difficult for the camera operator to pan to each panelist in time to record each particular vox pop.
Without the resources to have multiple cameras and operators, i came up with the idea to sit the panelists next to each other and shoot them all in one fram in high definition. As the projects we are using are Standard definition, i could then zoom into each panelist using the layout tool without losing any quality.
The way the footage is edited is to put an entire interview in a sequence and then take grabs from each of the sequences from the source window. This means that when the edit is complete, audio adjustments and color correction can be done to an entire interview rather than at the clip level on the timeline.
The problem is, is that i have brought all the hdv footage into the sd project which downscales it to dv in each sequence. Then when i take grabs from the source window and use the layout tool, the footage has already been scaled to SD and i don't have the resolution to play with when zooming.
If you could set up each sequence with different settings for resolution and pixel aspect ratio, i could insert an HD sequence into my sd timeline and use the layout tool to zoom without quality loss.
Having preset independent sequences would also be great for doing 4:3 pip's in a 16:9 timeline which currently requires the 3dpip's cropping tool which is very resource hungry.
That is all...
