Problems with 8.22 update and multicam

I've had what sounds like the exact same issue, freeze then a white looking overlay, sometimes the timeline comes back, sometimes it needs a Windows restart. I'm using Windows 10 which is always up to date and optimised and had the issue with all versions of E8. I have a very basic system build with no extra hardware attached other than a Focusrite audio interface.

My issue happens completely randomly, can't be replicated, but only happens very rarely.

As I've had similar issues with many programs over many years, I've always used frequent manual and auto saves wherever possible. Not that I'm saying that frequent auto saves are the solution, it's just pragmatic. So far, I've never really run into any chatastrophic issues, and although it is a bit of a pain it just allows me to get on with things.

To my mind, this issue could well be system specific, drivers, hardware, MB, OS etc. In which case it may not be a specific Edius problem, maybe just something that can't be accounted for with the many hardware and software variations of a Windows PC.

If there is a solution, I'd be really interested if you find one. Although I do think that it's more likely to be system specific.

I started editing at 1/4 resolution just to get to the end of the project. It worked very well even in multicam mode. Then I tried adding a sharpness filter to all of the clips at the same time. Crash. It's a 2hour project with lots of clips, but I did it all the time before 8.22 and with the GTX950 card. But since 8.22, crash. I tried it with half of the clips. Crash again. I am adding the filter to about 20 clips at a time and its fine, just will take longer. Once I get the files rendered down to DVD, i will try and go back to 8.20 and see if it there is a big difference. I do agree with Jerry that it wasn't the smartest thing to put a GTX950 card on my system, but my GTX260 card just was starting to cause crashes as well and out of desperation I put the 950 in and it starting working much better. Is it a perfect solution, no, but at least I was getting work done. Edius probably has evolved beyond my processor and the GH4 certainly has, so decisions will have to be made sooner rather than later. And yes I am editing in on an HD timeline.

UPDATE:
After completing my project, I was able to uninstall Edius 8.22 and completely update Windows 7. Then reinstalled 8.22. I was able to tick the CUDA box to help with the Primary Color Corrector and so far in multicam mode
no crashes with the 4K GH4 footage. I can now monitor the time line in 1/2 resolution where before I had to drop it to 1/4 resolution. It is playing back fairly well at full resolution with a little audio skipping in the 4K footage.
Again, thanks to everyone with suggestions and advice. It is always appreciated.

Here's a couple of points to remember.

1. Putting a new or newer graphics card on an antiquated system will not get you the performance of your wishes.
Your GTX 950 is designed for a PCI-E 3.0 slot. Your X58 series motherboard only has PCI-E 2.0 slots.
It was released at the time of HDV. So, trying to edit in 3840x2160p on a chip designed primarily for 1440x1080i is asking a lot out of that system.

2. If you are after better performance on a system that is 5 or 6 chip series back, it is best to bite the bullet and accept the limitations of that system and build another system.

3. If you have the proper, cooling you could try a light overclock on the 965.

4. If you're working with 4k GH4 and you are delivering to 1080, I would edit in a 1080 project setting. If that doesn't help, convert the GH4 4K material to HQX and then try to edit in 1080 again.

I have an older X58 980x system and it still works fine. But, I'm not using it to edit native 4k material.

It probably would not hurt to update Windows 7. Also are you using QuickTime or the new EDIUS' importers with no QuickTime? With the colour correction are you using the Primary colour corrector? In 8.22 it can use the GPU, and it may need recent drivers for your graphic card. Personally I am use Windows 10 with all the latest updates.

If using the three way CC then this is not going to be an issue but if using the PCC you could try ticking or unticking the GPU box and see what happens.

I am using the Primary Color Corrector. Great tool. I started using the GPU and updated the card drivers but I got terrible performance and that's when the crashing started. I am no longer using the GPU and my performance is better and the crashing has seemed to stop. MY GPX950 may no longer be up to the task. I guess I'm in need of a new editing system. Just trying to hold on a little longer.
Probably need to reinstall 8.22 after updating windows 7 and see how that goes when I get time.

The updates were to be installed prior to the installation of Edius 8.

I am editing GH4 footage as mov. I agree that 6Gbs of memory in 64 bit is low and what thinking about upgrading. Before the update the GH4 4K footage played pretty smooth until color correction was added. This show has a lot of color correction to match the cameras and is really slowing it down. There was talk that 8.22 needed two windows updates so that is what I will do next ... update windows 7

The GH4 does MOV or MP4, both are MP4. All by recent editing was done using MOV. EDIUS seems ok with both but other programs do not like MP4 with uncompressed audio so I film in MOV.

The OP could also be filming in MP4 with compressed sound as opposed to uncompressed. Looking at his systems specs I would say 6GB RAM is a bit low for using 4K footage.

I have not had this and have been editing with GH4 footage and AVCHD combined. Are there any effects on the footage?

Just updated to 8.22. Running two tracks: one with GH4 4K footage, the other with HPX250 1920 HD footage. After about 30 minutes of cutting, the timeline will just stop and screen goes white. Sometimes it will recover other times it just crashes. Anyone else experiencing this? may have to downgrade if this continues.
Any help appreciated.
