  • How to correct Barrel Distortion with GoPo clip

I'd like to know how to correct a Barrel Distortion from GoPro and other super wide camera lenses.... dash-cams as well. It does not have to be perfect, just reduce the distortion to an acceptable level :)

Much appreciated if someone can point me in the right direction for links, software or how to correct it in Edius

    Cheers

I just purchased Prodad Defishr software $100 that works PERFECTLY :)
You can get it here for 20% less http://vegasaur.com/Defishr

For dash-cams with 170 degree view use DJI Inspire settings.... amazing result.

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions. I didn't know you can get a stand-alone software and I tried Defishr. It worked really well and I bought it.

My experience with Edius-plugins that works in one version but not the next. IE: Plural Eyes were bought some years ago for over $200 and never worked well in Edius. They no longer support it. So, I threw out the money for nothing.

Same story with most the plug-ins purchased don't work with upgraded Edius versions. Some from Prodad.

In the future I'd prefer stand-alone VFX and AFX.
                Just sayin :)

I've had ProDRENALIN for over a year for use with my Sony Action cams; Defishr allows you to create and save profiles (and modify existing presets that are in ProDRENALIN). I use AS15s and AS100Vs cams but newer models profiles are not in the s/w and there hasn't been an upgrade to 1.0.72 in a while yet. Defishr will at least allow you to tweak the cam setting so it's worth something ($52 diff is the question).

Other than that, no differences; I have not noticed any quality differences on output files.

                      From the website:
Q: Why would anyone buy Defishr if the fisheye removal is already part of ProDrenalin for less money?
A: Defishr contains a special tool for creating custom camera profiles. ProDrenalin has a wide range of pre-set camera profiles for the common cameras out there, but if you have a DSLR with a unique lens or you’ve added an aftermarket lens or adapter to your action camera, you may well need to create a custom camera profile and then use the profile in Defishr to remove fisheye from video shot on that camera. Defishr camera profiles can also be imported into ProDrenalin.

I'm just wondering why you need to purchase software for your GoPro Barrel Distortion, if the GoPro Studio that comes with the GoPro is Free? I've take out the Barrel Distortion from my GoPro using their software and it looks OK. It does take time to process the footage. Are these other software program faster?

                        Thanks
                        Bob

Thank you for the explanation... makes sense.
I use a 170 degree dash-cam, most of them are about the same on the market. Tried to make a filter but somehow I was not able... or don't understand how to do it.

No matter, I found in the filter list: DJI Inspire (Drone) lens filter is just perfect fix for these dash-cams. Everything looks straight and not even a slightest 'bend' anywhere in the image. So, I am pleased and good with spending more money, but I got the results :)
