  • Time remapping confusion

Ever since I started using Edius I've been confused with its time remapping function. The way I understand it is that you have the TL representation at the top of the dialogue box and the clip at the bottom, and keyframes create a correspondence between the two in time. I have a job at the moment that requires a (drone) clip to start and remain fast for a specified period then slow to X1 at the end to edit to a matched frame edit. When I try to do this selecting and moving any of the keyframes affects all the others.

I'd be really grateful if someone could point me to a tutorial or tell me how I should be doing this.

Do a search here or on Google and pull up a tutorial by David Clark. A very nice simple explanation.
Here are a couple of links

It's really smooth if you implement it correctly, I use it every day, it's one of the most important assets for me in Edius.

      If you look at this:

Xuefei Yand records her own Bach transcriptions with the Elias Quartet at The Friary in Liverpool.

Practically every shot has been time mapped to fix sync between what I shot during the recording session and the final edited master audio provided by the record company.

Wow, isn't Bach on the guitar wonderful!

Still don't get how to control the individual keyframes properly within the timemapper tho' without many of the others changing also.

What are my other options for time control? I have AE (5.5) but certainly wouldn't call myself proficient with it.

Alan, a quick pointer, set your key frames then fine adjust by putting mouse over either the timeline counter top left or the source counter bottom left and drag or mouse wheel for fine adjustment, never drag a key frame.

Always remember to set slow motion setting to none, this for me at least, creates the smoothest possible speed ramps.

Ha ha ! Peter Sellers HD night, very funny !

I use Twixtor in AE but find it a pain sometimes, I don't like optical flow artefacts very much.

                Paul :-)

Thanks Paul I'll give that a try, although having been back to refresh my memory with AE, that turned out to be pretty simple.
Where's the slow motion setting you mention? I remember using Twixtor in my old FCP days. Has it improved - got any simpler?

                  Thanks for the help.

Beginning to get a handle on this now. The no-no, as Paul says, is trying to drag the green keyframes. But I can see now why and how the 'clip' handles link and move - preserving the speed between the following sections.

My guess is that when I finally nail it it'll be simple and obvious!
