  • Removing cut points

    Hi there,
I am completely new to Edius and video editing and learning slowly as I go.

I have made a video with good results - I am creating videos with a filmed speaker and a PowerPoint presentation (screen capture). It is PiP using the layouter.

I have made many cut points during the edit and now want to make them back in to one. For some reason the "Remove cut points" only seems to be highlighted on some occasions. I cannot see why.

Any help you could give me on this would be much appreciated.

    Kind regards,
    Jack

I realise this is because of the way that the videos have been put in to the time line.

The way the footage downloaded off the MiniDV camera has caused me a headache as it decided to split the clips up - I presume it is trying to work out where a scene starts/ends?

    I have file names like:
    • Cap0608_014(0001).avi
    • Cap0608_014.avi
    • Cap0608_020.avi
    • Cap0608_021(0001).avi
    • Cap0608_021.avi

Is there a way to make a tape just download straight in to one big file?

I'm pretty sure that "Remove cut points" is only enabled while in multicam mode. Click F8 to enter multicam mode and you can then do "Remove cut points"

You can remove cut points in normal mode if you have cut a clip.
Select both parts and press ctrl +delete or select remove cutpoint from the right click menu.

The op's issue was split capture.

Actually it doesn't guess where there is a scene change, it split files according to time code change / interruption.
Long time ago when I started out in video I was not comfortable with so many short clips in my project.
I worried about sync issues due to way underpowered system and user mistakes.

Actually the split files are really useful as "normally" the end of a clip = end of recording, and often if not always need to be trimmed.
Same goes for the start of a clip that generally always need to be trimmed.
If no file splitting is used and one large file is captured there might be sync issues when on certain clips 1 or more audio frames are missing at the ending of say a spanned file due to file size (long form recording)

Not saying it always gives problem but chances are that it might.
I still remember the days of Canopus reference avi files which where quirky sometimes.

Good thing that Edius is flexible and let users choose what they want, I for one insist on file splitting on capture to be able to more quickly trim the ins and outs and detect sync issues .....

I am currently capturing many old Hi8 recordings and have many issues, one of them is that the tape tears and breaks, sometimes just snaps but also tears in the length.
I gave 2 Cam's to playback and it happens in both thinking the tapes might have been damaged previously.
I love the ability to have split files, it saves me tons if time.
Time I need to repair the tape breaks :(

cut points can be removed if you add a cut and then want to remove it

but if you add a cut and then trim either side of the cut point and close gap, you will no longer be able to remove the cutpoint, this is normal
