I did this a long time ago(some of the links are wrong) but it may help some with using layout..which is a great tool and yes keyframes would make it really nice.

Thanks Paul - as I thought then, if you use the layout tool you cannot then change project settings to a different resolution :(

Imagine that an HD file is at 53% scaled size when in a DV size project (PAL) .
If you adjust an HD image in an HD project from 100% to 90%, then switch to a DV project, the image is still at 90%, ie no longer 10% smaller but much bigger. The changes are carried over, but the results are not what you would expect. See, my original answer was sort of right!?* er, well.

So if I crop a clip in an HD project and then change to a SD project setting it will "magnify it" much further?

Does it scale correctly now when switching from HDV to SD?

Great tool, use it a lot and like that you can save custom settings, would just love it to be keyframe enabled.

One thing to be aware of, when using it to shift or scale finely detailed HDV stuff around is to watch for the result being slightly fuzzy. If this should happen and you will probably only notice if you are have the NX HD card and viewing on an HD external monitor, is to shift or scale by another pixel or two which usually (but not always) makes it become sharp and clear again.

Oh and don't overlook the alpha control in it, as I did for a while until Anton kindly pointed it out.
