Is there an approved motherboard list somewhere on the site? Also, I was told by a dealer I really should choose a 5000X chipset and not 5000V or 5000P.

Correct- It has a 16x PCI-e slot for graphics cards, dont think the others do.

FWIW I (and others) can suggest with confidence the Supermicrio X7DA (E,8 or 3) motherboards.
      AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, RTX 3080, 64GB RAM, EDIUS X WG.

Thanks so much for the reply. I phoned tech support and they helped me find the compatibility listing on the site. Based on that I've rechosen a few key components:

        MOBO: Supermicro X7DA8
        CPU: 2x Xeon E5335 Quad Core 2GHZ
VIDEO: Diamond Viper Radeon HD 3850
        RAM: Kingston PC2-5300 FBDIMM 1x2GB

The only real question in the air is the video card, which isn't officially listed on the compatibility chart.

You need to change that. You have to populate in pairs and with 8 cores you should have at least 4 sticks of RAM.
          I suggest 4 x 1GB sticks.

Ok, I just put an extra set of RAM in the budget.

I forgot about the soundcard, do I need one above and beyond the onboard AC97 of the mobo or is that handled through the Edius SP hardware anyhow?

              Soundcard is not required.

Back to the RAM- still dont use 2 x 2GB, 4 X 1GB better shared accoross the cores.

Whoops, that was seemingly a typo - I did mean 2x1GB but now 4x1GB. You've been a tremendous help. It is really comforting to know you guys pay such close attention to your forum - for when I need help with the actual building/editing/everything else.

                Thanks again.
