  • Audio problems on export

    Hi all.
A rather baffling problem on video export.
Client requested that video be uploaded for use on Foxtel (cable tv)
They wanted ProRes, but I soon learned that's barely possible on Windows.
Finally agreed high quality Mp4 (initially I sent them the Edius HQX file with codecs but they moaned about some weird file format etc...
So made mp4 /H264 with high bitrate, audio at 384kbps.
Email came back saying that the file is corrupted or some other problem, audio is not good and something wrong with quality/ settings etc.
It may be that I exported it as a 4 channel instead of 2 but I can't imagine it would cause distortion/ corruption?

Does anyone have experience with this? Is there a better format I could use to export for 1920x1080 25p for PAL TV?
    Thanks

did Foxtel give you the required audio spec for loudness and if so, did you use the Loudness meter of 8 Workgroup or 7 Pro to make sure levels are legal?

btw, I export to Prores direct from EDIUS timeline via Miraizon plugin (no longer available)

XDCAM 4:2:2 should also be fine for Foxtel and you can export that from EDIUS

Thanks Anton, No they gave me no specifications other than Pro Res, said things like "the last file had some weird codec and the audio was corrupted. Or something." Is that some sort of professional speak? Lol...
I'm using Edius 7.5, used the Audio master I was supplied with (.wav file) and left all the levels as is.

is your project setting set to 2 channel, 48k?

when you open the audio mixer and play the timeline, how high does the VU meter go at the loudest parts?

Yes Anton, set to 2 channel 48khz 16bit, the VU meter never enters the red or past 0. Here is a screenshot of the setting info on the previous file I sent them.
Plays fine here, no distortion of any sort and levels are all good?

can I see a screenshot of project settings with advanced expanded

0db or higher is way too loud for broadcast

                typically, around -20db is accepted

so you would apply normalize clip tool to your clip and change values until sound is mostly around -20db

but first check with them to give you technical spec of audio levels, it may even be as high as -12db but certainly not higher

Screenshot attached. I may have had the Audio on the previous export set to 24bit quantization, would that cause problems? Also the previous export was set to 4 channel, would that also cause problems?
Will email them and ask for levels. Completely forgot about the -12db + thing.
                  Thanks Anton.

TV stations typically need PCM wave audio 2channel stereo 48k (16 or 24bit)

PCM wav is part of XDCAM 4:2:2 export and also part of Prores

lets wait until you get their specs

also, ask for video spec, because they may need upper field first?

Thanks mate, been a while since I've been on here and posted. Thought it was strange that I had to post picks the old fashioned way!
