Hey folks,
need your quick help again. A customer sent me a video file to be implemented in a production. The file is a mov and causes problems (as mov files seem to do regularly...): When trying to import into Edius 8.2 WG, it would not allow me to, but instead prompt this error message: "Import failed. Data is incorrect. (0x8007000d)"
On another system however, Edius 7.5 would import the file and even play it with correct audio, but only showing a huge chess board (= pattern of black and white rectangles). From the property window, Edius 7.5 told me that in this mov wrapper it is a DNxHD709 codec encoded with Adobe AE CC at 30fps progressive.
The QuicktimePlayer on my system was not able to play it back on a first try, but did on a second try. VLC player was also able to play it back immediately.
As a workaround, using Handbrake I tried to re-encode the clip into an mp4, which did not deliver a result that could be imported into Edius.
Questions are:
1. While my system in generally able to play the clip on VLC player and deal with it in Handbrake, why would Edius 8.2WG not? Do I miss something, e.g. some codec pack I should have installed or updated?
2. Whereas Edius 7.5 would be able to import the clip, play its sound and at least let me have a look into the properties (to see the codec information), why would Edius 8.2 not be able to do the same?
3. Is there a solution?
4. And, as a side question, do you happen to know a good and current tool to analyze codec information of a video clip, if Edius would refuse the import?
Thanks so much in advance!
