  • Graphic Card Advice Needed

Hi there, I am in great Dillema since i am thinking of replacing my older X800 with one of the newer ATIs such as

    - X1950GT at 100 euros
    - HD2900GT at 160 euros
    - HD3850 at 160 euros

Which one would you prefer? Would it bebetter to go with a Nvidia card (Lets say 8600GT since they are at the same price?). This machine will be basically used as editing machine, while i am thinking of getting an NX card (not too soon unfortunatelly).

    Thank you very much

    Current Specs: Q6600, 2GB Geil 4-4-4-12, P5K-E Wifi, Thermaltake 850W, 5WD 320GB, ATI X800

I see that you are using an ATI X800. Do you use Xplode Pro alot and get real time? If this is an important part of your editing workflow and you are not using 30" monitors, I would just stick to the X800.

That being said, any of the new cards will give you good performance.

I currently own an ATI X1950 and a Quadro FX 1500. The Quadro is in my Edius system and the ATI is in my Decklink. I have been looking at the Nvidia
    Geforce 8800 series.
The main difference that I have found between my 1950 and the Quadro is the sharing capabilities. The Ati does not share IRQ's as readily as the Quadro. I had an issue with the pci-x bus and the pci-e bus.
Once I put the Quadro in that stopped.

It all comes down to personal choice and previous experience.
Just keep in mind, that you will more than likely loose RT performance in
Xplode with any new card....if that is a prerequisite.

I got Sapphire 2900 Pro 1 Gb ram- and got a lot of trouble... The best one if you want to keep Xplode is 1950 line. I have Pro with 512mb, If you want the best in this line, go for XTX.

Bluray playback on computer is merely ok. I bought a player....it's a night a day difference.
