    JohnnyD,

    Glad I could help.

Yes, live preview on the external monitor would be great with Boris plugins.

Other than that, so long as you do all of your compositing within the one applied Boris effect it seems to work okay. You can always export any underlying video(s) from Edius and import it into the applied Boris effect using a new track(s).

Yes, SpeedRazor was/is pretty unique in the way it handles tracks, effects and transitions when it came to compositing.

    Oooohhhhhh, thank you, thank you.

Yes, import tga on the video clip, within Boris. I was doing the old SpeedRazor way. :Put my TGA on top of the clip on timeline and move, etc. in Boris, WITH LIVE PREVIEW on my broadcast monitor, which Edius can't do.

Better than nothing. I'll have to cut the clip every time I add a tga Logo.
    Yes, very limited.

    JohnnyD,

I'm not sure this is exactly what you are trying to do... I put a BorisFX9 filter on a clip. Left the initial Video 1 track in Boris set to V1, created a new track (Ctl+K) above the Video 1 track. Set this new track to 'still image file' and imported the 32bit TGA (blue circle). I set the circle to scale up with a growing blurred border. This all renders fine for me in Edius.

If I turn off the bottom track 'Video 1' I can no longer see the Edius Video Track in the background and the logo renders out in Edius over black (no underlying video) with the move and glow intact. Is this what you see? If so make sure a bottom Video track exists set to V1 which will be the video track you've applied the Boris effect to.

Unfortunately, Boris plugins are no where near as flexible in Edius as they are in SpeedRazor.

    Hope this helps.

Here is my translation from russian-based videoediting forum:
1 Insert transition to a keyer on clip and extend it from left to right(in) on the whole length of clip.
    2. Put any background on any track under the transition.
    3. Open Boris application and change track names 1 to 2 and 2 to 1
    4. All the rest as usual.
    5. Great option of Edius- you can put 2 transitions before and after the effect in the regular way you use them.
*It's very easy, you have to do it once.

    No HQ,

I'm just trying to move and glow a logo in BorisFX9, using the Boris Plug-In in a DV project, on the Edius timeline. Got 30 alpha 32bit TGA's to do with a client on Monday. Somehow, Edius is leaving the Black & White alpha channel full frame, and not moving, when using Boris on the Edius timeline.

How do I insert a pic in my message?

    Barry, thanks for the info...

I'm using a logo made in Photoshop per TGA32bit, but I'll try your work around.
So I guess this is a step backwards in editing power, as my 10 year or older editing software can do this on the timeline with Boris.

I'm only using one BackGround video clip, The Boris logo looks great with the glow, zooming up on the Edius timeline. If only I could get rid of that B&W alpha channel.

Boris does not work that way in EDIUS
It only works as a filter or transition and if you add a title it will only appear on that clip and cannot be transferred across clips.
    Start Boris as stand alone
set up your title, if you saved the Boris project while you were doing your last title you may be able to recall it.
Even so set Boris up in Project for "Straight Alpha"
Go to Edit Preferences and make sure EXPORT is set for "Straight Alpha"
    Compile your Title
    Select File Export Movie
    Select "AVI VFW"
Select Encoder "Canopus HQ" if using HDV in the "ENCODER" button
Make sure Straight Alpha is selected
    and then export the file
The resulting file will have a transparent background if no background file / video was selected and can be place on a track in front of all the other tracks and they will appear through, try placing on a title track and this will guarantee it will be on top, remember to have a title transition add a "Title keyer"
If you are working in SD try a few codecs to find out if tranparency is available.
Canopus HQ for Hi def support transparency and Edius has no problems with this codec in SD! Briliant
    Hope this help

started a topic BorisFX and Edius Alpha, 5 Hours later

BorisFX and Edius Alpha, 5 Hours later

Okay, downloaded BorisFX9 demo, hoping to make a logo with alpha channel (tga,32bit file), zoom out with a glow dissolving in half way. Just like I did on my old SpeedRazor with FX4.

I put the logo on top of the Edius BK video as a filter. After 30 min. I find out that I have to re-import my logo as a graphic file inside of Boris to show the alpha channel. Then I make the move and the glow. Preview looks good. I can't see the BK, but I figure it will render on the Edius timeline.

Well, when playing back in Edius, I get the nice move and the glow, BUT I have the black & white alpha channel just sitting there full screen, not moving.

So, what do I do to make it work? Too bad the 3PIP won't do soft borders on
a TGA file with alpha channel.
