  • 25fps to 50fps project

    Will there ever be a way to change a 25fps project to 50fps project or is this technically impossible?

    Would not know why it would be technically impossible, we can get people to the moon......

    This has been requested many times during the past many years, I'm very sure it's totally at the bottom of the request list (if it ever made it to the list at all)

    Or the short answer;

    NO

    Unfortunately fom the past few years you can see that virtually only the big broadcasters will get their wishes, not production users......

        Vegas is essentially a DAW ( that is how it started ) that really treats video as an audio stream so sample rate conversion is standard in the processing. It only needs to know if the stream is progressive or interlace to figure out the frame rate to sample rate and whether to sync to video or audio rates. That is why it is easy to squeeze or stretch audio relative to the video independent of the video frame rate .

            While I appreciate technology and often like to dive into the finer details and inner workings of all things, sometimes I envy the not so knowledgeable and would like to ask stupid questions like if brand A can do it 5 years ago (or longer) and brand B that I use can't do it then there are 2 simple answers;

            1) why can't the clever engineers who write the code not make it possible.

            2) if the direction of brand B is not the clients direction and keeps on implementing un requested features maybe it's lime to shift loyaltie to brand A.

                I think it's a time and budget issue for Grass Valley. I would suggest that they give the top paid developers the very technical things on the "to-do" list like support for newer cameras and codecs and like when they went from x86 to x64, but they should hire low-level, low paid software developers to do the less technical stuff like fixing the GUI colors, being able to convert 25 project to 50, being able to find and open a timeline that EDIUS says has missing footage or a dummy effect (go find it today...) and little things like that, that are not so little to many Grass Valley customers.

                  @ Tony...
                  Let me give you a quik Idea of what prosumers asked for and has appeared in the latest updates:
                  Lut, primary color correction, bluray to different framerates, opticalflow.

                  There is a substantial list of things added to EDIUS for non broadcast users.

                  We will prioritise features and development on the impact it has on our business.
                  If for example we have a station with which has 1000 EDIUS licenses, Stratus and a lot of other stuff which includes support contract we will honor the support contract.

                  Does this mean that we don't value our non broadcast customers. No we think you are an important part of our business.
                  That's why we have been steadily adding requested features for you our non broadcast clients. :)

                    I totally agree that Grass Valley has great updates and support but who am I... just a little customer. :-)

                    But if it were MY company and I wanted to compete with the best... I wouldn't only wait for requests to come in but would also put together a strategy team who's sole purpose would be to explore the competition and try to always be one step ahead. Yes, I'm sure they do that to some extent as Grass Valley even has features that are not even in the competition (Edius real-time for example, in my opinion beats all), but still... although we must remember that it is almost impossible to make an NLE that would suit EVERYONE as it all comes down to each one's editing needs, it is still possible to try and implement ANY little feature that Edius lacks and that all the rest of the competition have - even though there aren't that many requests for them. Why? Because someone that uses the competition, because Edius lacks features, isn't going to sign up here and request it... they will just purchase the competition.

                    It would be wise to do research on EDIUS vs 'n' and see what is written about that - it would give developers an idea of how people compare Edius to the competition and that would be just as powerful, if not more, than requests of clients that have already purchased Edius (yes, they are customers and deserve full support, but there are so many potential clients that are not heard here that Grass Valley can get without requests).

                    Done with my one cent. :-)

                      Well said, zvit!
                      It would have a huge Impact to the business if Edius attracts more indiviual and post pro users.
                      But this needs Investment to close all the gaps of missed standard features that users are missing out (better 10bit+ import/export workflow, audio workflow).
                      Broadcast users are small in number compared to other NLE users all around the world.
                      Why not attracting both user groups at the same level to higher the amounts of income to have bigger budgets.

                        There is a market if you have patience!
                        But keeping the lacks will never reach bigger markets.

                        I know of 3 AVID users who felt being attracted by Edius.
                        But after one or two years experience they were switching back to AVID when they realized that Edius didn't going closer to the competition.
                        They really liked some aspects but the lacks were predominating.

                        I don't think that broadcast market will grow up to infinity.

                          It has to work from business/sales point, otherwise it's pointless to go to some new market. Got GV it's way easier to stick with broadcast market and focus on this.
                          You think there is huge market for "BETTER" Edius, but actually it may not be the case at all.
                          I tend to agree. To really get at the whole market ones needs a cross platform product like Premiere/AVID or even the new BM products. Sony has divested Vegas which is Windows only and gone with the newer cross platform Catalyst products. I have always had several products to cover my needs even as a serious amateur. I expect if I was really running as a money making ( rather than costing hobby ) I would have several NLE and both PC and Mac to cover the bases. I think I would be more interested in transferring projects between products. That way it would be easier to use particular products for their strengths and thus focus on strengths rather than weaknesses.

                          I am a Windows guy so will stay with EDIUS, Vegas and CS6 as they satisfy my current needs and I have no problem with using which ever for their strengths.
