  • E8.11 WG and multicam (slow-down)

I started a multicam project with E8.10 WG (proc 2600K/Raid0) and, now, I edit the same project on a platform skylake (6700K/SSD) and Edius 8.11 WG.
In multicam configuration the TL has a slow-down at every cut , 1 frame before the cut and the sound hiccups during this frame.
    In standard configuration, it's OK.
I verified all parameters, excluded all HDD/SSD for video from AV Eset, proxy out, ... I don't find the reason.
    The SSD/HDD seem fine.
No problem on my old PC with the same project (2600K), but it was on Edius 8.10 WG.
    Any idea ?

I'm not seeing that with Edius 8.11 WG on Windows 10 with a 4790k.

I install 8.10 instead of 8.11 and the problem is still there.
On the old proc 2600K, I don't see that either.
      Maybe a real-time bug.
      From Edius settings?
      From W7?
      From hardware?
I test Neat video : no real time at all.
      Probably normal, but not sure.

Problem found, on the Graphic card side.
If I connect the 2nd monitor on the GTX970, it's just fine, no hiccup.
If I connect the 2nd monitor on the Intel GC, play isn't smooth at every cut, in multicam mode.
But, in this config, I get the Quick sync and I can play, in RT, 4 layers with PIP in UHD project.
        Without QS, only 3 layers.

In pratice, it sounds not very easy ...

I have just loaded EDIUS 8 WG today and have the same problem. Moment of hesitation at each cut point when in multicam mode. I run only off the onboard Intel graphics and with EDIUS 7 ( on the same PC ) with the same project at the same point there is no problems. As far as I can tell I have EDIUS 8 set up exactly like EDIUS 7. So I am either missing some setting or EDIUS 8 has this problem. Latest version of EDIUS8WG downloaded today. EDIUS 7.51

Big improvement in that I can now multicam 3 tracks of AVCHD and 1 track of UHD60P in a 1920x1080 project exactly what I want to do. But without the hesitation!!! Must be some setting I am missing. Filters are off both are set up with no dropped frames same buffers etc. However monitoring with MooO the CPU seems to stay pretty stable at about 40%with EDIUS 8 and peaks at 90% at these clip cut points for EDIUS 7. I realize that the GPU is used in EDIUS 8 though may be the difference.

EDIT: Is EDIUS 8 WG expecting to run under WIN10 ?

            8 WG is suitable for Win7, 8 or 10

since you have onboard graphics, you will have the option to enable or disable hardware acceleration of AVCHD files in system settings, importer/exporter AVCHD

            if enabled, disable and test
            if disabled, enable and test

Yes with it turned off it is better but still just the slightest of glitch and clearly not as smooth as EDIUS 7.51. Guess I will wait and see what EDIUS 8.2 is like as I would really like the UHD in multicam.

it could be caused by the version of the onboard graphics driver

I am using a GTX-980 and don't have onboard graphics and don't experience the hesitation

maybe 8.2 will take care of your issue

I have the latest driver so will wait and see if EDIUS 8.2 improves the situation. Until then EDIUS 7.5 works fine. I have some shows coming up later in May that benefit from the FDR-AX1 UHD60P and it would be nice to use EDIUS 8 for those and although the hesitation is annoying it may work for those few shows. The issue is only in multicam mode so just may mean I watch in standard mode a little more to confirm the edit.

can you confirm that use filters while in multicam is disabled?

Yes filters are off in multicam for both EDIUS 7.5 ( my normally way of editing ) and EDIUS 8 WG. I have EDIUS 8WG on my laptop but have n ot tried multicm on it. Will do this morning and report back in a couple of hours.

Yes will do. Just stange that none noticed this before since I thought that one of the advantages of EDIUS 8 was its use of the intel gpu especially for multicam. With further testing it does appear to be a h264 issue as HQX or ProRes files do not experience this problem as far as I can tell. Will do some more testing. I am staying with 7.51 as there doesn't appear to be anything in 7.52 that would affect what I do.
