  • 4 vs 3

So far I've opted not to upgrade to Edius 4.x, I'm stil using 3.62 and am fairly happy with it.
Most of the reports I've read regarding Edius 4 say the pros outweigh the cons but I haven't seen any pros that would outweigh some of the cons I've seen. The pros may be nice but the cons keep me away (unfortunately I cannot remember what they were at the moment).

So what are a few of the things that you find makes version 4 really worthwhile (other than multi-cam)?
    Responses would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Bill

        Rusty,

Could you elaborate on how these things make your editing easier or better?
I'm not sure what you are referring to as different when you list extend clips and ripple mode (I thought I could already do these things, what's different?)
Low price is not really something I would consider a gain by switching as staying with what I have would cost me nothing.
Also, what would be some things I would lose and might miss if I switched over to 4.x from 3.62?

        Thanks,
        Bill

          Bill,

I am operating both versions cause I'm stuck with the older version with my REXRTPro card (still works well though). The newer version is better. It's sequence function allows you to make sub projects in multiple timelines. This versatility is worth it alone. It can output multiple parts of the timeline instead of just one at a time using batch processing, again a major advance that greatly increased my productivity. It's DVD creation is more versatile and intelligent.

It's hard to describe but once you start using it you will wonder why you ever asked the question.

Hard to explain Bill... I'd highly recommend downloading the 4.5 demo. At $209.00 us the new features are easily considered a great value!

            Download and PLAY!

You do not have Ripple Mode, Fade Buttons, Multi Sequence, MultiCam, and many other features.

I just demo'd to ESPN and they were using 3.X and they ordered 4.5X to replace all the 3.X's :)

Not to mention its new good looks! Edius went to the gym, got some surgery done and is lookin sweet :) But the single task bar button is possibly my favorite addition (well......subtraction....)

A more attractive UI helps me edit faster :) Ahem.... And what about the cool Profiles! HDV speed encoder! AAF exports! Multi Sequences! Sticky windows! Confirm File name BEFORE capture and Time remapping!

I'll calm down now, just do it :)
When I go out, I wear my EDIUS T-Shirt.

I think it's all been mentioned...Edius 4.5x is a huge upgrade from 3.x. Lot's and lot's of cool new features.

Check out the demo on a spare computer, like Rusty mentioned.
