  • Basic mono panning

    Hi,

If I take a clip with 4 audio channels (like XDCAM) and tell the clip in properties that it is a monoaural clip where I'm interested in the audio on channel 1, when I put it to the timeline on A1 ( assigned as mono ch 1) then the clip automatically pans to the left.

    Why is this?

I might want all the audio on A1 to be panned center, how do I do this without changing the panning for each clip? Is there a way to change the default panning for the entire track?

I've tried the track mapping in the project dialog by setting it to put A1 out on CH1 and CH2, but the default panning to the left overides this.

Before you do anything in your project, go to Project Settings and switch the Audio Panning option to "EDIUS Pro 3"

      Hi Kennealy,

OK. I've found out what the problem is here. My version 4.54 won't treat audio as mono if I change the setting to 'Edius Pro 3 compatible' - only if the project is made from scratch as Edius Pro 3 compatible will the audio pan to center automatically.

Any project changed from 'mode 4' to 'mode 3' will not inherit mono attributes and remains panned full left or full right.

      Is this a bug?

Not a bug - that's how it has always been. It only applies the change on a new project, or for any new audio clips applied after the change in behaviour is made. It has never automatically adjusted existing clips.

(since in a way, that might be against what the editor wants - some to be panned, and some not)

right click the sequence tab and change the sequence pan mode to Edius3 compatible, this should fix an existing project

I think a search would brought up the answer.
I know for sure I typed this a few times.
