  • Dolby E capture/export problem

    Hi,

I am trying to resolve a problem with capturing encoded Dolby E to Edius Workgroup 8. I am lost with this:

    1. I need to capture .mxf (or any other) file from HDCam tape where ch1/2 is PCM and ch 3/4 is encoded DolbyE.
    2. Then I need make same edits and make mxf export to Sony PDW-U2 with same outputs like on tape ch 1/2 PCM and ch 3/4 encoded DolbyE.

Problem is, I am not able to capture Dolby E even I setup Audio Input Setting in Device Presets correctly. (pic. 01). I always get only empty PCM wave. Is there same problem with Audio channel map? I see bit stream track but I am able to do only settings on pic.02. I don't know where I am wrong. Probably I have same mistake in Project preset or Capture preset but I don't know where. Other captures through Storm 3G card are OK. Is there some possibility I need a plug-in for capturing DolbyE or Storm 3G card is not supported? I read the manual but there should not be a problem. Should I see bit stream track on Timeline or I am just putting it into wrong track? Or any other mistake. Please help.

I found some tips here but it isn't solution for me.

I haven't ever tried this but I do note that you have set up inputs up to channels 15/16 and only have 7 tracks to put them on.

This is something I don't know but doesn't dolby E contain all the tracks information ecoded into one AES pair so there is only any need on the capture side to select 1&2 as PCM and 3&4 as DolbyE?

Edit: wasn't it done that way to support VCR's with 4 tracks only?

I don't care about it, but I guess you need a full Dolby Pro option.
Dolby-E support has not been really good described in manual.

You are right! One Dolby-E track occupies 2 standard audio tracks.
But you can have more than 2 Dolby-E tracks on tape at the same time.
HDCAM SR can have up to 12 standard audio tracks so there is enough capacity.

I capture from Sony HDW-2000. On HDCam there is only 2 pairs of tracks, but I think it doesn't matter how many tracks you capture. The rest of the tracks remains empty. Problem is I always capture only ch 1/2 LPCM. DolbyE tracks depends on option in picture remains empty. If I set 3/4 on LPCM I obviously get just "white noise". Is Dolby Pro plug-in the only solution?

As I said, I don't care about it.
You may should ask support or the moderators can give help since the topic isn't part of the manual.
In best case GV adds a section to the online manual.

              I think it should work.
I hope, you are right but pass-through setup seems to be quite confusing. However, I thank you guys for tips and I will contact GV support. If I get some answers from them I'll leave feedback here.
