  • Edius 6.05 and Davinci Resolve 11

What is the best workflow (if it exists) between Edius 6.05 and Davinci Resolve 11?
    Thanks.

It depends on the footage and what you want to do with it. The simple options are:
    • Make a mov of the whole timeline with no effects or transitions, take it into Resolve and use the scene splitting option to make individual clips for grading.
    • Use the AAF exporter to make individual MOV clips, or to make a file which links to the original clips (if Resolve will open the originals). "Type 3" links to the originals. Use other settings to make new versions.
    • Export and EDL and load the original clips into Resolve and link then using reel name a timecode.

In EDIUS 6.5 I don't think you can make HQX MOV files so the best option is probably to download the Avid DNxHD codec pack and use that.

Also the AAF export is limited to one video track, if I remember correctly and the MOV files will not have timecode.

This was all considerably improved in EDIUS 7 and 8 so AAF can do multiple tracks and timecode with GV HQX format. There are quite a few posts on the forum here about this.

I did a short video about AAF which you can see here: http://www.dvc.uk.com/acatalog/AAF-E...IUS-Pro-7.html. The video was done with EDIUS 7 so some of the options will not work for you, however.

They will not work, only QuickTime HQX. The best option would be the free Avid codecs:

        http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...Codecs-LE-v2-5.

Download and install them and then make DNxHD Mov files. You will need to go into print to file and make a quicktime preset for this type of file, and then it will be available in the list of codecs on the AAF exporter.

          I'll try that.

Im trying edius 8.1 wg and i cant see any of my presets when doing aaf export. Dnxhd is available but not dnxhr. I would really need aaf export with xavc or dnxhr in uhd resolution. Is this not.possible???

I just tried making a preset in my EDIUS 8.1 and then using that in an AAF and it work. You have to go to print to file and make a preset by clicking the save icon. I made one for a QuickTime DNxHR Mov file and called it QuickTime DNxHr and it was available in my list of presets for exporting from an AAF.

The aaf export using my dnxhr preset fails after a few seconds. Same export of timeline works with hqx

I just did a quick test at UHD using a DNxHR preset and it worked for me. What are your settings?

I made an XAVC preset and that did not show up in the AAF export.
