  • Edius not recognizing Camera connected

Hi guys, I formatted my PC and reinstalled edius recently after upgrading to a Solid State drive.

Now my Edius won't recognize my camera is plugged in. I've tried both fire wire ports, so I figure it must be one of the settings in the settings menu that is messed up

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    I have gone into
    Settings>System Settings>Capture
There is nothing in there that I can see that would stop Edius recognizing my camera.
    The
Capture> menu has everything greyed out except Batch Capture

Sounds like you have not changed the firewire driver to legacy, look here

Where abouts are these settings to change them please?
Edius is not recognizing my camera. I've looked in the manual. This problem has arisen after a format/reinstall of edius.

Thanks for the link. I don't think I've ever done that before though.

I just realized that the issue may be the "device preset" had not been set up,
but now I'm trying to set it up correctly, and that's another story!

          I tried
Generic OHCI with 1440x1080 50i set
          with output
the same, but that won't bring the camera on screen.. so I'll try different settings

Sony HDR fx1 camera DV tape pal

I just changed the input setting to Generic HDV and that worked. It's capturing.

yes, for HDV capture you must choose generic HDV

also, in the device preset, I always choose "No Select" for output

Don't know about the Sony, but with my Canons and Win 7

Use the legacy IEEE1394 diver as suggested above.
              Set the Edius capture device device according to the tape type as Anton stated;
              - Generic OHCI for SD tape
              - generic HDV for HDV tape
And you may need to set the camcorder firewire (iLink) output to the tape type (not auto), and you may need to do this before you connect the firewire cable to the camcorder.

Yes Edius does not like auto setting in the camcorder settings, you need to set it to be the same format as the tape, DV or HDV.

To reduce camcorder wear I use a GV-HD700/1 portable DV/HDV player with LCD screen via Firewire. To set it up go to menu > In/out record menu (left arrow over right arrow symbol) item 1 HDV/DV select >enter > HDV/DV select highlighted > enter choose DV or HDV press enter menu to exit.

It does say that you may need to cycle the power on/off with the firewire connected, and when you switch it back on there should be a reassuring "blum blomp" sound from windows if all is well similar to plugging a USB stick in.

On system 4 my Asus MB does not have Firewire on board. So I have solved that with a Sonnet Tango3 PCIe card which has two firewire 800 connectors, two USB3 on the rear and a dual USB 3 internal socket. Standard Firewire 800 to 400 cable and the deck works just fine with that.

Looking it up in device manager it is using an LSI 1394 OHCI compliant chip with Ms driver 6.1.7601.17514 in Windows\system32\DRIVERS\1394ohci.sys

                Regards

                  Thanks for your help.

I captured my last tape fine, but this time
I plug the camera in.. - windows recognizes it

I select capture device as Sony
then I can't actually capture.. it's greyed out.. No idea what setting is messed up this time?

is the camera set to DV or HDV or Auto output

if set to DV, make a Generic OHCI preset
if set to HDV, make a Generic HDV preset
if set to Auto output, all will fail

Ok I tried the legacy drivers and it did not fix the issue, it actually made it worse
Prior, edius was opening a greyed out box but now it's not even doing that

Canon/Sony HDV is typically 1440x1080i with non-square pixels and requires a corresponding preset.
Your screen shots show different resolution.

                              How was the video shot?

The preset i use for HDV from my Canon camcorders is attached.
